I was suprised and slightly annoyed that the first phones to use CZ lens were Nokias. CZ lens to me has been a defining feature of Sony Cybershots, and one would think that a transition to SE camera phones would be natural (SE Cybershot800 anyone?). So why, SE, why?

nepasavalern hi and welcome to esato:
I can understand your point but who's to say won't adopt CZ into future phones?..they would be foolish not to i think it only makes sense.

Hoping they do indeed.
But anyway I do think that convergence is becoming an issue here as well. camera phones i feel are taking over the domain of conventional digital cameras. Sony has in the past few years been quite aggresive in marketing their digital imaging products and I'm sure they wouldn't be happy to see market share for their lower end models slowly eroded by camera phones. Would be interesting to see their reaction to this 'evolution'... |

unfortunatly nokia have a long term exclusivity agreement over the carl lens so i doubt it will be anytime soon
having said that the k750 seems to be a decent camera phone without the need for a named lens.
i know bugger all about photography and id never heard of the carl lens so i wonder how many people outside of the hardcore photographers it really means that much to.
it would be like se using nad or arcam for its amp for sound unless your a hifi nut these names wouldnt probably affect your purchase of the phone |

First of all CZ are not the only one on the planet making good lenses. Second, if looking at e.g. N90 the only benefit of CZ is that Nokia can make more money. But it does not make N90 take better pictures than K750 (in some lighting conditions yes, in others no).
The question is, do you want to pay more or less money for same or similar picture quality ?

Just because Nokia has CZ lens doesnt mean the camera is better. Actually, they use artificial colouring and sharpening, i read a review somewhere. The K750i is still better than the N90.

Prove it!
Until you actually shoot pics with N90 there's little you can do to support your biased statement.

the guy reviewing the phone said that the nokia guessed colours a bit and artificially sharpened. from what ive heard the k750 is better. but i am not one to make judgements, dont get at me mate i am making a judgement on what i have seen, heard and read!

No, the S700i did not.
CZ is just a designer label for camera components.
It doesnt automatically mean the N90 takes better pictures. Of the specimens ive seen (and ive seen a lot), its takes noticably much poorer pictures than the K750i - IMO.

It has been proven in reviews. Just sitting with the paper version of a mobile phone magazine comparing K750, N90 and Sharp 902. No doubt K750 take better daylight pictures while N90 handles low light conditions a bit better.

Quite - and as is the case with some of the lower end Sony cameras which feature the CZ brand its doesn't even mean the lens is actually a proper CZ lens, rather than a lens produced under license to Zeiss "standards" - a big difference. |
