I was looking around for P800's SDK and Technical Document the other day i came across Nokia's Serial 60 platform SDK. I request for the SDK CD from the webpage and it arrive yesterday, free and direct from Finland.
In contrast, SE can't even let you download the SDK and we have to _buy_ the development tools and sign up for an expansive developer support package in order to receive the *free* SDK.
A few days ago i receive an email from SE's Mobility World regarding the Code2Cash competition about winning a P800 or something; but first of all is 'Cash2SonyEricsson'
I start to wonder, how will SE/P800 ends up without the support from the fellow independent/freeware developer? Usefull shareware/Commercia application/utility + some free but less usefull Java game...
I myself will definatelly go for Nokia if they came out with a P800-equavalent thingy.
Just my 2 cents.

I have also noticed that Nokia people are actually answering to the developers questions in the Forum Nokia discussion board. This is not the case in the Ericsson Discussion board. There's also a lot more tools available in Forum Nokia than in Ericsson site. And the best part is that all the tools in Nokia site are free. |

I think that what SE is doing with the SDKs and Development tools is diabolical!
Have you even tried to get to the mobilityworld website recently, it's been down for days!! Hope their firmware is more stable Like orange said, there are precious few replies from the Ericsson support team, maybe because they are frightened to give away freebies – what with support costing $500 for 5 incidents.
Palm was successful precisely because they recognised that developer support was crucial. There are only so many apps they (SE) can develop in house themselves and to charge developers to enter a competition is farcical. I mean, check it out, some of the prizes are P800's - since emulators are often quite different from the actual hardware they are emulating (especially with regards to performance) how the hell are you supposed to test your application if you don't have a device??? And the winner gets, wait for it, a PC!! Something they are likely to already have since the emulator is Windows only.
The P800 will be made or broken by its software support. The world is full of examples of inferior technology succeeding due to better marketing and I think that they had better watch Nokia very closely indeed. Especially if they can't get something out until December (which I am hoping is NOT the case).
