it used to do it for me when i had r2c001 firmware. i updated the firmware to r2ae033 using seus and the camera now makes the noise even on silent. i think added the camera noise even in silent in some firmware.

with many branded K700's the camera sound is tied to the ringer volume. No matter if silent mode is set nor what profile is in use, the camera sound will only be silent if the ringer volume is set to silent.

As far as I know this is true for certain branded phones only. My Vodafone handset works this way. From what I can gather, in non-branded phones the camera sound is disabled in silent mode even if the ringer is not set to zero.

Oh, from cornhelio's post, it obviously depends on firmware also. In more recent firmwares, SE may have bowed to public pressure from privacy advocates to have the sound unmuted in silent mode and tied to ringer vol instead. That way, you can silence the phone when it's more likely to be for legitimate purposes only, otherwise it is inconvenient. (mind you selecting a profile with ringer vol set to zero is easy and gives you a silent camera!)

yeah. I think vodafone did this before SE started doing it, hence my early firmware with unmuted cam in silent mode, whereas non-branded cams of that firmware would silence the cam in silent mode...

Still, easy to get around.

right i just put the ringer volume to zero, still theres a camera shutter sound. i think have permenantly enabled the shutter sound. i also tried it after holding down # until the silent logo came up and there was still a sound.
i found this in the K700/K500 firmware overview thread:
R2J015
- Released to Chinese service centres around 27/7/04.
- Software versions:
- LCD 200406041
- Camera 3.9
- ITP CXC 125 813 R1T
New bugs
Ability to mute the shutter sound of the camera taken out

@Cornholio_666, that's bad news. I had a feeling not to update my firmware (even though I get the crappy bugs like the one second delay on call connect).

Now I know why

Yeah, I kept up to date with the changes and they are tempting. The one second delay, menu speed, etc, not to mention removing the vodafone branding, are all good reasons.

But for instance just the other day, I took a series of photos of a bird from about two feet, with the camera sound of the K700 the series would be toast after the first shot!!

Whenever a person mentions they want to be able to silence the camera they immediately think you are a deviant. None of them have the first clue about photography

it's a K700i for pity's sake! They don't have the greatest camera, but I wouldn't have a camera on me for that bird shot, but for my camera phone.

The K750 cam's are WAY better, and that's what I'm really hanging for...

you can disable the camera shutter noise as a bonus option when you unlock or flash your phone with total server.

Do you think this is the most asked question in Esato history?

Unfortunately of all the discussions about the K700i shutter sound, there has never been a definite answer as to how to disable it or why on some units it can be disabled and not on others.

There is also a thread which suggests of totally removing the shutter sound if it can't be turned off.

I don't know if that really works.
resistance is futile.
