As usual my mobile operator shows the name of the place on my mobile screen. But is there a way to know someone else place. Is there any software that can do this. I'm sure many would like to do this.

Imagine two persons at different locations using different sim cards. Logically which software of a cellphone can catch the location for each other, unless the service providers are involved?

here are some services in UK that can tell you where another mobile phone is but of course that person has to initially accept via text message from the service that you are allowed to track them

@kds kamal. So still without the permission of the other, you are helpless. Btw all the gsm mobiles i have seen display its own location, only if you opt that AREA INFO.

@kds you can call the operator to ask your friends where about but your friend must give an access to opr.. @ECS i think operator in US does have this facility.. If you wanna check if its working then go to msg reception in the message.

Here in Malaysia, one of the service providers 'DiGi' actually provides the service, called FriendsFinder which allows you to seek the location of a friend on the same service provider through SMS. But of course this can only be completed if the friend in question agrees to have his/her location disclosed, by replying to the query txt.

It is similar to the service described above I think
