Get a TDK bluetooth adapter (available from Expansys.com) just plug that in your computer's USB port and voila; you are

Will any of these actually work? As far as I can tell all use the Widcomm BTW software which cannot receive files by object push profile unless they are vCard, vCal, vNote etc. So pictures cannot be sent to pc from phone. Please tell me if i'm doing somehting wrong or need aditional software. I have the tecom varient and it wroks very well in all respects except that one. Send files, synchronise, dialup by gprs, gsm etc. are all ok.

I think at the moment Infrared is you best/cheapest bet.

An MA-620 is almost same price as a datacable (at least in Denmark).

However by Christmass, I sincerely hope that Bluetooth will work better.

And you are right, most BT users have problems transferring images to the PC.
I hear that Anycom works fine. Don't know about TDK.
But I don't think MSI will work. I will get one, one of these day, so I will know for sure. However I don't have a camera, so transferring images will not be necessary for me.

I have both MA-620IR and MSI 6967 BT key. If you choose overall functionality, get the IR port. The MSI doesn't have software that will recieve the photo or theme from T68i.

Widcomm seem to have most of the market for bluetooth software implementations. BTW or bluetooth for windows is a software stack with a shell extension implementation in windows.

Quote "Some of the companies who OEM our software are: TDK, IBM, Compaq, Acer, CSR, Tecom, MSI, and others." which does not leave many more.

So at present if you get a bluetooth product from any of these companies you will NOT be able to send pictures, soundfiles, melodies themes etc. from your phone to your pc. The only files you can send are vCard, vCal, vNote, vMessage.

Any kind of file can be set from the pc to the fone.
I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to get their software to allow it to receive any type of file, perhaps we should start a campaign.

Their email is info@widcomm.com

Bluetooth devices from anycom do not use this software? Which other companies are there that have software that works?

Sending pictures from a t68 to a pc with the msi bt key doesn't work. But Nokia has made a sw that makes it work excellent on the 7650 :-) Hope SE will make a sw like that too...

The 7650 uses the "File Transfer Profile" which was not meant for mobile phones. It was meant for PC/Laptops. Object Push is a similar profile with less functionallity.
Both "File Transfer" and "Object Push" are profiles which has a server and a client part. This is just like a web-server. The client is the one which request things (the one on which the user selects to transfer files), while the server is more passive, and doesn't need to have a UI (though it can have allow/deny and security dialogs). The server could of course just be another mobile phone.
In general the initiator is always the client.
So when we select a files on the phone, and select "send" using Bluetooth, we are the client. The other part becomes the server.

Object Push Profile has 3 funtions:
1 - "Object Push" - Send a object to a "The Inbox" of a "server"
2 - "Business Card Pull" - Request a Business Card from a "server"
3 - "Business Card Exchange" - Send card, then request one.

Only the Object Push functionality is mandatory, and only vCard 2.1 format support is mandatory in general (If the device has a calender, vCalender is mandatory as wel, etc.).

File Transfer has 5 functions:
1 - "Navigate folders" and view their contents (Browse)
2 - "Pull Object" from current folder
3 - "Push Object" to current folder
4 - "Delete Object"
5 - "Create Folder"

Browsing and File Push/Pull is mandatory. Folder push/pull is optional, as is 4 and 5.

I don't think the T68i implements folders, which is probably why it does not use File Transfer Server. It wouldn't be impossible (just having one root folder should be allowed), just not very logic.
There is of couse no reason it couldn't have a File Transfer Client. But it requires a UI, so it takes time to do

The Nokia 7650 implements File Transfer Server... But not the client, so access/transfers should be initiated from the PC.
When browsing the 7650 from the PC, how does it look? Does it have folders? Can you create folders? Just curious
Of couse the server is probably simpler to implement, because it does not entail an userinterface.

So I guess that the problem with file transfer from T68i to PC, is that WIDCOMM software refuses to receive a Pushed object of an unknown type. Which is actually OK by the Object Push Profile. Its just rather irritating...

No, you can't create folders in the 7650 from the pc. Not that I know, might be some java app that makes it work though.
I use the pc suite for 7650, which has a picture transfer ability, both from and to the 7650 on ir or bt.
