Nokia 9500 bluetooth modem help |

I'm trying to setup my 9500 as a modem with my Widcomm v1.1 bluetooth dongle. I can do it quite easily with my T68i, the gprs profile I need to connect with is the first stored on both phones. It easily connects on the T68i using *99***1# but if I use this dialup setting on my 9500, it acts like it is connecting, even to the point where the gprs symbol comes up on my 9500 display, then fails. Any ideas? I've searched various forums but don't seem to be finding the relevant information to help me. Any useful advice much appreciated.
(Where's AYA when I need him! lol).

Can you not choose what type of connection you want? Like dial-up or gprs? If so maybe choose dial-up?

Using *99***1# "dials" on my first profile on my phone which is gprs. As I'm aware, *99***1# makes the pc think it is dialing a dialup number and tells the phone the pc wishes to connect through gprs. I can get it working with the supplied datacable and infra red, just not bluetooth. Very frustrating!

I'd like it to work over bluetooth as I don't need my phone on the synch station or in line of sight with my infra red adapter. Is *99***1# the correct dialup settings to use on the pc connections settings? Can get on no problems using that with wifes k700 also. For such an awesome phone the 9500 feels a little crippled with regards to bluetooth connectivity. I hope there is a work around that will restore my faith in it. Are all Nokias partially crippled with regards bluetooth connectivity?

John,
SE just like Ericsson's, needed the *99***1# or 2#, because the 1/2 indicated the CID# that held the settings within the phone. Nokia's on the other hand (my experience with series40/60 and 9210s) just needed the *99# as whatever the default configurations for GPRS is the phone will route accordingly. The is the simplicity of Nokia. The actual AT+CGCONT commands are already within the phone, hidden.
I do hope this helps. Again double check your default GPRS configurations - some people have it set to wap settings and wonder why it wont work when port 80 is blocked.

Thanks Prom1, the profile I wish to use is a gprs connection, it's the first profile stored in the phone. I tried *991#, this didn't work. Also *99#1 and *99*1# neither of these work either. Any other thoughts? Thanks for your input so far, feel like I'm getting somewhere with it at last.

Man this 9500 is too good! Got gprs over bluetooth, and can simultaneously surf the net on my pc using the 9500 as a modem, AND surf using the 9500's browser at the same time! Nice!!!

@JohnM: You could have PMed me to notify me of this thread, and I would have got here faster (just saw it 5 minutes ago).
I use the 9500 as a bluetooth modem with an office PC and it works fine just as you have found out.
Interesting, but *99***1# is what works for me. Just out of curiousity, I'll try *99# and see if it does any good at my end.

Didn't think of that, never really use PM's much to be honest. Yeah *99# uses the default connection as Prom1 said. I'm really impressed by the fact that I can use the 9500 as a modem and still browse on the 9500! Couldn't do that on the P900, if it was acting as a modem and had an ongoing connection, there was no way to browse on the device itself at the same time. This 9500 just gets better!

@JohnM: The 9500 is true multi-tasking at its very best! Furthermore, the piece also keeps checking your mails while its connected as a modem.

My commie, which I use more or less strictly for data, is on GloMobile, but I also have an MTN line on a Siemens C55, that takes care of most of my calls.

Like I said I would, I tried using *99# in place of *99***1#, and it worked just as well. So, its a win-win situation for me: both work!
Question: What's the functional range of your bluetooth connection? It does not look like mine stretches as far as 10m.
