Bluetooth connectivity ? |

Hi All
Over the weekend read September issue of Stuff magazine [full of gadgets and other paraphernalia].
Anyway, they tested a couple of bluetooth phones [T68i included], Ericsson BT headset, Motorolla BT headset, laptop, palmpilot etc.
Overall the conclusion of their testing was that Bluetooth has a long way to go.
I found this a bit strange as I know people who use and test BT. Also have sent/received using BT on my T68i with no problems. Yet Stuff said the T68i was the easiest to connect to the Palm but then took a long time to surf the web. Quality of Motorolla and Ericsson BT headset left a lot to be desired [like hearing through cotton wool].
Spoke with one of the testers here who told me phone works better with BT headsets when at R6E.
There must be some of us out there using the phone to its maximum potential. Care to let us know of any problems seeing/connecting other devices. |

i agree bluetooth is still in its infancy and has some way to go before it is widely implemented in a lot of new devices. |

Before bluetooth can really take off, it needs to become idiot-proof. When you read the newsgroups it is littered with people who cant get devices to connect, etc, etc. This is not a failing of product however, it just means that your average joe blow might have issues with the setup. Kinda like how Aol became the number one internet service, not because it is the best but because any numbknuck can configure and use it. |

Before BT will take off it needs an 'Killer Application'. This application exists today materialized as 'BT Headsets'. If they would be >reasonably< priced, they would rule the world, for sure... They would not sell a single phone without BT and a fancy headset.

I agree, the price of BT devices need to come down a long way. One of the future applications for BT is to hook up VCR / DVD / HiFi to TV. Who would pay an extra £50 - £100 for these machines. |

Bluetooth does not have enough bandwidth for this sort of connection. You would need loads of compression and anyway, whats wrong with half a meter of cable tucked behind the tv that you are never going to move anyway?
What is is great for is short range communication between devices, handhelds, portable computers, printers, network access etc.
I read somewhere about a new standard that is being developed for AV interconnections. I builds on the DVI format used for digital flat panels and include audio, interconneting controls and digital rights mangagement precautions. It won't be wireless though.
