from what i heard, voicestream is very liberal in giving out the unlock code. as long as you have been with them for a few months or longer, just call them up and say you are visiting a country to which they do not support roaming. they should give you the unlock code for your phone. its worth a try.

no, PUK is something else. you must tell them that you want the phone unlocked and to give you the unlock code. they should provide you with info on how to do that, ask them to give you the email of their unlocking department. email them and ask for the unlock code, they should give you a code for it and it will be long (about 10 digits i think). they will also provide you with instructions on how to input it into the phone. hope this helps.
