SONY ERICSSON CHALLENGES YOU TO TAKE YOUR BEST SHOT IN NEW TV AND PRINT CAMPAIGN
Multi-market commercial showcases the new K750i camera phone
21 June 2005
Sony Ericsson is launching its latest global campaign featuring the new K750i camera-phone. The campaign is produced by BBH. The K750i has the sleek, beautiful design expected from Sony Ericsson, but also contains advanced camera technology which results in outstanding picture quality. The K750i phone includes a 2.0 megapixel camera, putting it on a par with many digital cameras. It also boasts autofocus, marking a step change in the kind of pictures that a camera phone can achieve. A flash can also be purchased as an extra accessory. The global campaign consists of both TV and print and will air in the UK & Ireland at the beginning of July.
The 40 second TV ad – ‘Food Chain’ - dramatises an incredible chain of events which prove to be the perfect showcase for the K750i’s photographic prowess. A young couple, on a day trip from the city, are strolling along the side of a lake. The girl suddenly spies a perfect pink water lily at the water’s edge, and grabs the K750i from her boyfriend so she can take a picture. As she frames the shot, a rainbow-hued dragonfly glides into the frame and she takes a now even lovelier the picture. The guy then spots some bubbles in the water, and a salmon leaps out of the water to catch the dragonfly mid-air. He takes an even better picture. A great splash attracts their attention. A huge grizzly bear has appeared and lunges after the salmon. The girl has the presence of mind to capture the scene with another great picture as the bear’s great arm swings at the leaping fish.
Then it gets really amazing. An eagle swoops down from the sky, presumably to catch the salmon. However, the couple are left staring in open-mouthed amazement as they watch him fly away – with the bear hanging helplessly in his grip.
The endline challenges us to ‘Take Your Best Shot. With a Phone’.
The print work for the campaign showcases the simple, graphic beauty of the K750i. Shot on a black or brushed steel background, we see the front and back of the device. The screen has a picture of a perfect pink water lily to link us back to the TV.
BBH won the Sony Ericsson account in October 2001 and has produced several TV commercials for the company. The last Sony Ericsson launch was for the S700i and was supported by a TV commercial entitled “Composition” which ran in 33 countries. This latest campaign aims to put Sony Ericsson in the forefront of consumers’ minds when choosing the best camera phone on the market.
Per-Axel Larsson, Marketing Director of Sony Ericsson Europe said, "The K750i can take the sort of quality pictures which could traditionally only be captured on a conventional digital camera. Autofocus and 2.0 megapixels are fantastic features which result in stunning pictures. In the TV commercial we see that there’s always a better shot around the corner, and with the K750i you need never miss it”.
John Hegarty, Chairman and Worldwide Creative Director at BBH, said: “The TV ad uses a stunning natural setting to help tell the story of the beautiful photography you can now take with a phone. The ever more dramatic chain of events that unfolds is a surprising way of bringing that story to life”.
