Easier than doing the whole update is to go to the C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\software-data folder and delete the contents. Then go ahead with the update, and whilst the firmware is downloading (before it starts to update the phone), check the files that are being created in that folder. The filename will give it away as it will contain the firmware version. If it's the same version, you're safe to cancel while it's still downloading as it won't have started to update the phone yet.
