Hi,

I hope you don't mind I jump on your train but I have the same question.

I normally un a fax program but when I ask it to search the K750i, it returns "it is a data fax only".
In the white papers there is no word about it but the developers guidelines says:

"The built-in modem can be accessed via Bluetooth™ wireless technology, Infrared, USB cable or RS232
cable connection.
Standards
IrDA™ DATA with secondary implementation of IrLAP 1.0 and IrDA-Ultra, IRMC 1.1., ETSI 07.05, 07.07
and 07.10.
Data rates (up to)
• 115,200 bits/s between phone and IrDA device (for example, PC, another phone).
• 9,600/14,400 bits/s for GSM data communication, no compression. 57,600 bits/s for GSM data communication
with V.42bis compression.
• 28,800 bits/s (receiving data) using HSCSD, no compression. 115,200 bits/s (receiving data) using
HSCSD with V.42bis compression.
• 40,200 bits/s (receiving data)/13,400 bits/s (transmitting data) using GPRS.
• 9,600/14,400 bits/s in fax communication.

AT modem V.25ter command set supported."

I called SE Customer Care for it but couldn't get a clear answer.

Thanks a lot in advance for help.

Bye,

Ton

Got a clear answer from SE Customer Care:

Concerning your inquiry we would like to give you the following information:

These mobiles cannot be used as a fax modem, they can only be used as a modem. The fax function is not supported.

Very surprising that such a great phone can't do such a common function. This is a serious problem for me..

"Mobile Fax", as we call this service here in Norway, doesn't work like that; The fax is in your sim card/subscription so to speak.
You recieve a fax on your fax number, a message goes to your voice mail indicating a new message has arrived; "This message contains a fax", what do you want to do?
Forward it to a near by fax?
Get the fax number for the fax in the shop (or where ever else you might be where there is a fax), forward the fax to that fax and get a hard copy there and then.
Forward it to your email?
The network supplier can add your email addres to your fax number and you get it as an ordernary email. (This can be done to your voice mail as well. You'll then recieve the as a sound file attachment in your inbox.)

@tranquil

It's a bit the same here (in France). The option is called here "Mobile Office" and in fact I have 3 numbers on my SIM: Vocal, Fax and Data.

The message thing functions the same, e.a. I can print a fax in my voice message box to a nearby fax. So receiving faxes in not the point.

My problem is that I am quite mobile and in the evening I do a lot of faxing from the hotel.
If my K750 can't fax I'll have to use the hotel phone and besides the cables (always too short), the French hotels invoice the phonecalls very "heavily" so it will cost a lot of money.

I'm really disapointed because the K750i is the best thing that happened after my R520m, but not being able to fax, I can hardly believe it...

Most networks don't support real fax sending/receiving anyway. Use a public internet fax gateway, or set up your own
