about 10 min after that she phones me back and said that o2 wont release mms until all networks are runnning intercompatability
she said it wasnt worth having just within o2 uk
then she said that this issue was being dealt with and that mms would go live in october or november and she promised!

Yes I'm on 02 and want to send MMS but I can't even get GPRS at the moment cos I subscribe to 02 through Singlepoint and they don't even give GPRS access cos of their billing system apparently!?
Just called Singlepoint to ask when they will even get GPRS on and they said there are "Technical difficulties" and can't even say when it will go live! It was supposed to happen back in May!!! What a joke they are..

Ok now here is the main point. I am on 02 and my other half is on Orange. She has just turned her MMS on. However when she asked when she could send me an MMS they said next year sometime?
I know they said that it would take a while to send MMS across networks but this is just silly. Does anyone remember how popular text messaging was before they could sent cross networks.

It's all to do with billing, O2 and Vodafone use service providers who bill the customer (you don't usually pay directly to O2 or Vodafone) - this was how it was done back in the days when there were only 2 operators.
T-Mobile can bundle GPRS data as they bill customers directly. Singlepoint do not have compatible billing on GPRS on O2 or Vodafone as yet. Per message billing will be easier to implement for service providers if this is the way O2 and Vodafone go, makes much more sense for users as they can mentally image how much they have used and it's a much lower entry point - don't forget people will still be using cheaper SMS/EMS if they don't need MultiMedia so £20 per month outlay is a BIG psycological barrier for most.
Interconnect costs for GPRS is another headache that will take time to sort out, this needs to be equated in either data size or per message terms for both sending and receiving across networks. And this has to be agreed by ALL parties who need to increase their data revenues so they will want to negotiate beneficial interconnect costs. It's not going to happen as quickly as we would all like.
Took years for U.K. cross-network SMS, and international didn't come until after that.

can 1 , i have the same problem with singlepoint but with my vodafone connection
i spoke to them on tuesday and they assured me that gprs and mms
would be available through them by the end of sept
I hope this proves to be true and they also get the same solution with O2 |

Well i'm currently on the T-Mobile network and there only offering MMS to people on contract! But I guess if you look at it another way nearly all the people I know who have mobiles don't have MMS just yet and there planning to get a MMS compatible phone next year so I guess it's an advantage for some........ :/
