We were on trip across Mediterran. One fella set his phone on auto network search. In Italy the phone showed airtel, but i don't know that there's airtel in Italy. Next, we entered Spain, but it still was airtel. But we were shocked when figured out that there's no charge for sms! All other services spent money (it's a payg sim) but we could send as much sms we wanted and it didn't cost a cent. How come?

You enjoyed free sms. May be someone was crying for extra deductions. Airtel can do such funny things.
