You probably never noticed it during a conversation, but there's about 1 second pause between the moment you say something and moment other person hear you. I also haven't, till I called my gf, which was inside bus, so I could hear her only through mobile. It was so confusing to see her open mouth, and then after a 0.5-1 second actually hear what she said. I know it's normal signal lag, but what was strange to me is how come you never notice this while having conversation?

i also believe it depends on where exactly you are. i have done some tests, and had them right on, but sometimes its a second off. i think it just depends.

Fora i jeste u tome da ne primecujes ovako. Probaj kad budes pratio nekog na bus i sl. tako da ga vidis, a ne cujes. To make 'experiment' work you need complete sound isolation, but must see each other- like on the bus station. It's just like when you have a bad codec in media player.

What Nitesh says is correct. Action first and then sound. Synch. difference.

dont talk rubbish its not like hes shouting to her, lol the sound is converted into an electronic signal that travels at the speed of light so the speed of sound has bugger allto do with any delay.
the delay is probably either a delay in the hardware or in the network! |

Actually, we are talking about three delays here;
One: The delay in the GSM network setting up a call. This dealy can in some areas be as much as three seconds(!) but has nothing to do with the image pictured in the first post. This delay causes the call to be set up slower in some areas.
Two: The delay in the phone. This delay is common in older SW versions. My wife's S700 has a significant delay in the softwae; 1,2 seconds to be exact. Her phone has the fist SW from when the phone hit the shelves and there are a few posts on the subject in here if you do a search. When she answer the phone and say "Hello?" the caller won't hear it and her next move is "HELLO!!!" wich is rather embarresing sometimes.
Three: The delay for signals to travel through the system. This delay is caused by the distance the signals travel. As we all know, a call is not from mobile to mobile but from mobile to areal, to the system centre, to the next (or the same as the first) areal, then finally to the reciever of the call's mobile phone. All this is don in a matter of "no time" really but tecnically there is a delay wich gets bigger the further the distance is between the tho phones. You've probably seen on TV when the news studio makes a live call to a reporter far abroad that it takes a little while before the other part starts talking when the studi ask a question, and if they interupt each other they talk on top of each other. This is caused by the distance delay.
If the two of you are on differend network providers the delag is increased.
My guess is that blayv's call was sent to another areal than the one he was using wich thereby caused a tiny delay wich made it look a bot odd since he could see her as she spoke. This lag can't have been very big but just big enought for them to notice it.

Anyway I was just wondering how come it doesn't spoil conversation (apart from tranquil's case). It seems that when I'm having smooth conversation, I'm actually dropping in the middle of one's sentence?
