Hello all,

Quick question for those of you that either know the answer ( ! ) or are maths-minded...

I was trying to work out the other day what the resolution of some of the cameras are compared to the hi-res digital cameras that are available.

The MCA-20 and 7650 both deliver pics in jpeg, but it seems via vastly different methods. The MCA-20 has four different settings and produces 4 different SIZE images. The 7650 however always produces 640x480 jpegs from it's 3 different settings, but they are of varying quality.

Due to the fact I think the MCA-20 image quality is superior, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the source resolution of the 7650 images ( they end up as 640x480, but what do they start out as ? )

I was thinking this might go some way to explaining the seemingly poorer image quality on the 7650

Thanks for any help you can supply

The Nokia 7650 can take pictures of 640x480 VGA size or 80x96 'portrait' size.

The quality of the picture (BASIC, NORMAL or HIGH) is similiar to the method used by Digital Camera manufacturers like Fuji. Essentially, even though the resolution is the same, because less colours are made available - the compression routines can compress the pictures better as adjacent 'like' colours can be grouped together as a single colour.
