i was recently given a link to a web site called *******.com
it's one of those web sites where users hard drives are shared online
(i think) so you can download pretty much any song, video etc you could think of for nothing. to be able to go on here an download, for example the new oasis album for nothing does not sound the most legal of operations. is this kind of sharing thing legal? i've read the reports in the papers about how people are caught out downloading stuff over th interenet, i dont want to go to work an cpme back to find out my ol' fella has been arrested!!! could anyone please offer any advice in regards to, maybe this site or such sites in general? thanks guys

File sharing is not elagal as such.
It depends on what files you chose to share and download.
Anything that has a copy right lable (most tings do) is elegal to share and download, but programs (as long as they are not harmfull to others (i.e. viruses)) and pictures (as long as the people or owner of the property aree to it) you've made/created yourself is perfectly legal.
As you can see there is not really much you can share legally.
(That is why I've removed the name of the site you reffer to)

If they are a non-label band who freely distribute their music: yes
If they offer freeware programs like me: yes
If the offer totally free (not just royalty free) images: yes
Otherwise, no.

as long as you don't sell copies or give them out, im sure you'll be ok, 1,000,000's use P2P sharing servers, sure you won't be told off...
