That is a most welcome news for all of us, the fans of SE phones. In order to cut R&D costs, SE has no altenatives except using MS 5.
It is true that there are comparable OS but Palm and Symbian seem to be at the end of the line of development. Sony has tried to develop its own chip called the Cell but still can not overcome the heat problems.
Now even Palm stated that MS 5 would be used in their products. Only Nokia is using Symbian but declared that it may use Linux also. Moto and Samsung use every available OS. So if SE still uses only Symbian OS, SE products will be no match to other manufacturers.
That is the right decision SE. |

I hightly doubt that. Symbian came out of the Epoc operating system, which was developed by Ericsson. That would be a huge blow. The next Pxxx will run on the new Symbian 8 platform. We do not need another windows system on our phones. Who needs a crashing phone, when your computer does that for U?

i was speaking to this person who works in the company about all the handsets in 2005...
and he said that the reason why the p1000 has been delayed is because they might use windows mobile...
there might be 3-4 smart phones by sony ericsson...p1000 most likely in 2006
and he also said that sakura will be using a new screen technology
cheers

Maybe using OLED instead of the usual backlit LCDs.
resistance is futile. |

The good thing is with Windows Mobile we'll have plenty of useful applications than Symbian UIQ, whatever the version is.
One thing I don't like about UIQ is that limitation of useful softwares/applications availability, even if it is compared to Symbian series 60 or 80.
That's why I currently thinking about trading my P900 to O2 XDA II Mini.
Go SE, Windows Mobile 5 will be suitable for your next smartphone, whatever the name will be. I'll be waiting for that.

Windows mobile? What a dissappoinment that would be. One of the reasons I like the Pxx series is that it doesn't have Windows. I've had a P800, P900, and P910. It would be a shame not to be able to buy a P1000 because it has f***ing Windows on it. |
