ive looked through some pictures of mine on my computer and they have horrible horizontal lines that totally screw up the picture.

in dim light they are very pronounced. even say, in a well lit room at night you can see them, and any dark colours in daylight you can see them. in bright light you can hardly see them.

is this just me or is this normal, especially in dark conditions?

unfortunately this is normal, most phone camera's suffer from major artifacts in low light conditions, was night mode on when you took those shots? It will help a bit but there isnt a lot you can do about it really mate.

I'm sure some experts will enlighten you even more

yup..this is normal...however the pics may look great when you are viewing them on the phone...you may want to use a photo correction app which will "clean" the pc on your pc

I have this problem too. This sucks, I wonder if this is hardware related rather than firmware.

That was what i was also thinking. It could be because of the CMOS sensor. I believe the s700 does not have any problems with photos taken in bad light as it has a CCD sensor.

The horizontal banding is still there in low-light conditions with R1J, but I'd say it's perhaps a little less pronounced than previously.

It's digital noise from the sensor, as others said. But the banding is very distinctive, and suggests maybe its not strictly a hardware problem. I've noticed the same in low light shots. A product like Noise Ninja might help you get rid of some of it.
