hi people. I am quite new to this site. But I see that there are tons of experienced people here. So if there is anyone to answer my question it would probably be one of you guys.
Well,my problem is that, I have recently bought a T39m, infact just 4 days ago. What's bothering me is that whenever I dial a number and wait for the connection to happen I constantly hear a buzzing sound from the phone's speaker. It is similar to the noise you hear from a tv set or a radio when your phone starts to ring.
The noise is there all the time, I can even hear it while talking. It gets louder as I increase the volume by sliding the side button. It is not a loud noise but it is still kind of distracting. Is this normal? The phone operates within the GSM 900 system. All replies are welcome. By the way, the phone's software is R04007 if I am not mistaken.

Mine T39 does exactly the same. But I only hear it when I'm starting to call someone, when the conversation is running the sound is to weak to be heard. The problem is that the speaker is placed almost on top of the antenna. You will always hear some form of disstortion.

My old nokia had it, my old ericsson had it, my T39 has it. It's interference, the result of less than perfect engineering. My samsung though had none of this. Well ericssons aren't known for great voice quality anyway...
It's \\ NOT /// !!! Look at it sideways !

That's just really wierd, since mine doesn't? Hmm, maybe I'm not listening to it.

Sometimes I hear some odd background noise when I'd talk to someone using my T-39 and the reception is rather low, but I realized that I'd hear it on my T68i too, and I believe this is probably due to interference and the quality of the reception?

There's two sources of constant buzzing. One is the backlight inverter and two is from GSM interference. The audio circuits must be heavily shielded in cell phones. Try placing a transmitting phone by a powered stereo or speaker...

The noise from the backlight inverter comes from the high-frequency switching circuits for EL and color LCD displays. Typically, this noise is physical: it doesn't come from the speaker. I can't hear any noise on my t68, but its audible on a t28.

All phones I've seen, Nokia or Ericsson, have a noticeable level of radio interference. If the noise is excessive, the phone may be defective.

I also had observed that noise on my first T39m which had sw R2M. But when i had it upgraded to sw R3B, it was (almost) unnoticeable anymore. What's your sw? Maybe yout just need an upgrade.

Well first of all thank you guys for the feedback. It is kind of relieving to hear that I am not the only person having this problem.

Some of you are right. The level of interference is quite low but I constantly listen for it. May be that's why some people have not noticed it yet. (It is noticable only in a quiet environment, otherwise on the street or in car I don't hear it as well..)

The firmware revision is R04007 and that's just one step behind the latest firmware revision r04008, if I am not mistaken. So I believe that interference has nothing to do with it.

I have owned two alcatels and a panasonic and none of them had this kind of problem.

I guess the only solution is not to pay much attention and learn to live with it. Darn, may be I should take it back to the store and exchange it for another brand.

I don't know what you guys think but that's really disappointing!

Btw, I ran a search on this matter within this forum and I realized that t65 owners have similar problems. But some of them say that the ericsson service fixed their problem by changing some parts inside. But I hate to take my brand new phone to the service! They'll probably scratch the screen or the casing while trying to fix it. Crap!

Take it back! It's not supposed to be like that. I've had 2 T39s, one of them had the humming. I took it back and got a new one. They told of that there had been a \"eart\" (does that make sence in english?) problem with a few of the phones.

Dear Tranquil,

Probably what they meant was "earth". it is a word commonly used in engineering. In simple terms, static electricity or the current generated by the incoming/outgoing micro-waves seeps into delicate circuits and interfere with them, that is delicate circuits are not shielded (or grounded properly) as good as it should be.

Well, I am confused by the replies. But at any rate, this weekend I'll try to drop by the Ericsson service center. I'll let you know about their reply or remedy.

Have a great weekend all.

By the way, I realized that GPRS connection drains the battery in a furious way. I stayed connected for only 15 minutes and the level of battery dropped one notch. Yikes!
