problem with orange k750 and upgrade |

my contract with orange runs out at the end of june, so i decided to ring orange to see what i can upgrade to. i also wished to change my service plan.
i currently have a k700 and pay £25 a month and get 120 minutes xnet, which used to be doubled for six months.
on the orange website you can buy a k750 for £30, on a contract of £25 a month with £250 text. with that in mind i rung orange asking if i could change my service plan to this and upgrade to the k750. they told me that i was unable to change my service plan to anything except £25 120 minutes 100 text, and that to upgrade to the k7500 would cost £190! i thought upgrading was free after 12 months?? so after them telling me that i thought well i might aswell cancel the contract as i would be cheaper for me to get a new contract. the only thing i was bummed about was losing my phone number coz it is such a cool number.
so, after telling them to cancel my contract, which they had no hesitation doing, i received a letter in the post, asking me to reconsider and stay with them. then they told me in the letter they can find a plan specially for me to help me stay with them. so i rung up again, and was told the same thing.
why is it so much hassle for me, already with orange, to change to a plan which i can currently buy from their website??? instead of me having to disconnect to reconnect on a new contract and therefore lose my phone number!!

Think about how important your phone number is. Is it really that cool?
I would suggest that you leave Orange and go somewhere else. I used to be with Vodafone and went to 02. Their customer service are very good and they are very helpful. When I upgraded to K750 about 2 weeks ago, the phone came free. Besides, when you sign up as a new customer, you normaly get to pick a number from a list of about 10 or so options, so I'm sure you'll be able to find another number that you fancy. Another plus point from )2 is that their branding of phones is limited to a theme and a few gif images (all protected so you cannot delete) but you can wack in any other network's sim card and make use of it.
If this in not acceptable and you wish to stay with Orange, then thats fine.
Something else that you can try: Usually when I have to phone customer service at any business and I get that annoying automated filtering system and they say for instance that customer services are option 1, I normally pick another option and speak to someone on another "team/department". To me it feels as if I get better service.
On the other hand, if you call and and that company has moved their services to another country, you are stuffed as the help is always crap. In trhat case, use thewir website.

its not just the fact its a cool number, but i dont want to have to tell everyone in my phone book my new number and also , because i wont get the 1000 free text on any other network.
it just seems so strange orange cant offer me a contract they currently offer me to buy from them.
what happened to the moral of all these orange adverts i see recently, where apparently they value existing customers as much as new ones? |

@horner2693
Thats what you call advertising. IMO the company with the most adverts are the one with the crappiest services.
