Hello everyone,

I just recently (two days ago) purchased my very first Sony Ericsson phone, a k750i and I am SO impressed with it! The battery life is amazing, it works flawlessly with my Mac and the photos are of such an incredible quality I feel as though I've purchased an iPod, a high-quality digital camera and a VERY impressive phone for one (relatively) low price! I am also new to Esato and have been reading up all the past threads that so many helpful SE fans have been posting in and I know that this is the place to ask my question!

I have figured out everything with this phone with the exception of one thing. I use a Mac running Mac OS X 10.4 and bluetooth. I have my Address Book on the computer populated with all my contacts and such. I can sync (using iSync) with the phone just fine. However, the k750i seems to *insist* on sorting my address book on the phone by last name rather than my preferred method of sorting: by first name.

I checked around all the k750i's Address Book options as well as the phone's settings screen but I can't seem to find anywhere where I can choose to sort by first name rather than last.

So then I checked in my Address Book application and yes there is an option to sort by First name. So I chose that option. Erased the address book on my phone and re-sync'd it. The stubborn k750i still insists on sorting it by last name.

So, I then changed the vCard format from 3.0 to 2.1 in Address Book on my Mac. Erased the address book on my phone and re-sync'd. Still no dice.

I then erased the address book on the phone again and proceeded to send individual vCards through the bluetooth menu option in Address Book on my Mac to the phone, but the phone STILL insists on sorting by last name.

I did a search on Esato and I couldn't find any posts about this. So either this isn't an issue for other people, or this is a known Sony Ericsson way of doing things and I am just not used to it. Or perhaps there is a way around this that one of you SE geniuses might be able to tell me (I hope so). The only thing I could think of was to put the entire name "First Last" in the first name box in my Mac's Address Book application. As I have hundreds and hundreds of entries I don't really want to do this just to get the phone to list my entires by their first names, but if I have to do that I will.

I just hope someone else knows a better solution to this! Thanks in advance to any and all who reply.

Hi,

On my (O2) branded phone, there's a "Sync. order" menu option that allows sorting by first name or last name, the option is in:

Contacts/Options/Advanced and it's the bottom menu item there.

Do you have this on your phone?

The downside of having the O2 branded phone is that the phone doesn't work with iSync so I use mobical.net (free service) to sync my contacts, that way they can be used synced with any phone, not just that the Mac supports.

Agree entirely with your comments about the phone being an iPod, camera etc rolled into one!

Hi there,

Thank you so much! I had changed this option, however the one combination of settings I hadn't tried was this:

Erased the phone book on my phone.
Changed the setting to Sync by First Name (in Contacts > Options > Advanced)
Changed the Apple Address Book application to use vCard format 2.1 rather than 3.0
Then I re-sync'd the phone and VOILA!

Thanks for your prompt reply. This works great!!!!!
Now that my one complaint about this phone has been resolved I can say this is a 10/10 purchase. Definitely worth every penny. I have never spent this much money on a phone before ($720 Canadian) but it does EVERYTHING! Phone, mp3 player, camera, calendar that syncs with iCal. It's amazing! I highly recommend it to anyone who is on the fence like I was.

Take care,

Glad you found a solution and that you like the phone, in my view it's my best one yet and beats Nokias hands down!
