Help with PC Suite |

I've tried SE official support and they were clueless.
I have a K750i on Vodafone UK. I have it connected up to my PC via the supplied USB cable.
If I install PC Suite, i get the configuration wizard and my phone and SIM card are both recognized. I can then sync my phone to outlook and exchange files between phone and PC.
However, the trouble comes when I disconnect the phone. On reconnection, the two virtual COM ports that PC suite places in device manager are gone and no amount of plugging or unplugging (phone from cable, cable from hub, hub from PC) brings them back.
On reboot, they appear again but disappear again the moment the phone is unplugged.
Im guessing its some kind of COM port conflict.
If anyone can help it'll be greatly appreciated and don't be worried about using terminology as i'm by no means a newbie
Cheers
UPDATE: It works Over InfraRed so it definitely seems to be an issue with the cable.
I also tried a master reset of the phone but still the same problem.

It's obviously a problem with your PC, specifically, other devices installed on your PC, so naturally SE isn't able to help you.
I believe you have full control of which COM port number to use for the USB serial adapter chip.
