It's a USB... I've hunted round and looked at other people's post it seems they're having the same problem. I pops up with 'unexplained error' and disconnects after I start looking into phone memory. Might be because I brought this cable from Hong kong over ebay. I really hope I havn't wasted any cash... |

i don't think it depends to the com port settings, but i suggest you use SetupCOM to get the exact settings for your connection.
Sean
Edit: and yes, as mrao said check that the com port is enabled

You haven't said what OS you are using. Anything lower than Windows XP may be a problem. But to connect your K700 to your PC you should have a cable from a serial or USB port going into your charger. This should be connected to the phone and plugged in for it to work. I also purchased one of Sony's cradles to sit the phone in whilst I mess about. There about £20-£30 depending on your source. The cable I use is also a genuine Sony, again expect to pay £30. Once you have installed the software the phone came with you can transfer data by 1. Using the Image editor the load up photos. Remember to select K700 as your phone. 2. You can transfer MP3 files by opening your file with MP3 file in, then open the 'My Phones' folder on your desktop and locating the 'Sound' folder just use drag and drop from one to the other. Its a slow process tho. I purchased 'Magix' ringtones software which allows me to convert any music file to MP3 and edit the length I want to use as ringtones. You can download the 'Themes' for K700 from esato web site, save to your PC and then transfer them this way, no need for WAP. Hope this helps. |

thankyou for your help. firstly OS is Windows 2000 also the com port I'm using shows in device manager, ports. I have also enabled it (tried reserving it and unreserving it) in Phone monitor. So I'm not sure it's to do with that. It is currently com 3 and I have tried swapping round too just in case. Everything indicates that the com port is working as well.
I,Robot I think the fact that you have brought everything from genuine outlets and paid a tad bit more and the fact that I got mine over ebay from some place called Chinaebase in Hong Kong for about half the price, may be why mine is not working. This company have since stopped trading on ebay...hmmm wander why.
Let that be a lesson for me.
Thankyou all for your great response, I'm really happy to find this site I'm off now to invest my money wisely.
Cheerio.

Esato is always useful so use it wisely before buying something for your phones then you can use your new accessories without any further problems.
and if you would like to buy a new cable, i suggest you use instead of IrDA, serial and usb cable. a bt dongle is very cheap and easy to install. if you want to get more information, just search Esato for bluetooth dongles.

Before spending anymore bunger try un-installing your k700 software, reboot, then re-install and reboot again. I never needed to alter any com port settings. Again this may be down to the fact that your on 2000 and not XP. Good luck. |
