I recently bought an O2 sim card pack(Pay as you go) as I was told that O2 accepts 0844 numbers and calling South Africa(in my case) would cost me only 3p/min Unfortunately I cant get a hold of this person anymore and am desperate to call SA(Durban) from the UK. Im new to this company and browsing through the internet I came across advice stating that inorder to do this I would have to apply for 'talkalot'(or 'talkalotmore'...which one?) and then afterthat use the 0844 4390390 number that I have. What advice do you have for me? How can I achieve the above 'without breaking the bank' so to speak and calling for 3p/min?

I could say if u see the rates on Pay as you go tariff on Premium numbers, you won't get 3p / minute mate. As Premium number is such as 0844,0870 and so on.. that 3p per minutes is related on Public Phones or Mobile phone with contract only where O2 giving free minutes on contract.. So as in Pay As you Go.. just forget it..

If i'm not mistaken, O2 Pay Go tariff of Premium number is 50p per minutes..

What you can do is the following, but the catch is your mates must have the same installed on their PC - VoIP

The best thing is that its free but you both have to have a broadband connection (I dont know about modem dialup as I dont use it. Download from http://skype.com

MSN messenger has the same functionality but the sound quility with skype is 10 times better.

Thats what I use to call my mates etc.

Other that that, get a proper contract with 02. For instance, a call to the homeland lasting me just under 24 minutes cost me £6.06, or 25p / minute

Hopes this helps of sorts.

@Space_sticks

You should sign up for the Talkalotmore tarrif, just because if you then you spend 15 quid you'll also get 150 free offpeak UK calls or 30quid and 300 off peak calls.
With that tarrif you would also get free international bolton which would get you 10p night time calls to South Africa if you needed it.

Otherwise, sign for talkalotmore and use your current telephone company for 3p as o2 do accept 0844 numbers as they are local call numbers.
You can also stay on you original tariff but it will probably be more expensive if you are on for long chats.
