It depends on what you want to spend. A new sim free model can be had for just under £300 in the link below. You also get free insured delivery within the UK.

You won't get a new sim free K750i for much cheaper than that even off ebay and unlike ebay you can be sure you aren't getting stung. And it is certainly worth the £22 extra than for the second hand Orange locked model in the post link above.

I find that www.mobilefun.co.uk are USUALLY the cheapest, if you are after a sim-free handset. The k750i costs around £309.95 from them at the moment.

www.expansys.com are also awaiting their next batch, apparently now due on 7 June, for the same price as mobilefun, and significantly cheaper than the first batch of k750i phones they had in recently...
You can always print the page in the link above and see if your local mobile phone shop can match or better the price, but these phones are not exactly in abundance yet, so good luck..if you find a cheaper place in the UK for sim-free, let us know!
Check eBay carefully..some are not located in the UK, so look at the postage costs that you are likely to incur, on top of the price of the handset.

Mate, I'm not being funny but unless it is boaught from a shop or online retailer, it is second hand. Sealed or not makes no difference. These days guarantees only apply to the original buyer so my point is that a new sim free model bought from a proper online retailer is definitely worth the extra £22. Especially if you consider the other one is, as you say, more than likely locked to Orange. It would probably cost more than £20 to unlock it.
uthetha ituvi, I normally buy from mobilefun too but they are charging £12 more than my link and they don't do free delivery (another £2.50).

cheers for that, they are indeed currently cheaper than mobilefun as regards the k750i.(£297.99 v/s £309.95)
However, I know we are discussing k750 prices, but just as a matter of interest:I saw that they (Phones2udirect) are asking £366 for a Sendo X..eek!Madness!
Expansys will be selling the Sendo X WITH the X keyboard for £143.95, when stock arrives in a week's time!

I have always wondered why people buy SIM free models. Ok, so you get 'clean' firmware, but the phone costs more than it would from O2 Online for a years contract .... and with that you get 50mins/month and 500texts/month, a physically unbranded phone and virtually unbranded firmware. Additionally, if you don't like the branded firmware then wait a while until somewhere like DaVinci allows K750 flashing and get rid of ALL the branding.
Am I missing something? |

buying on contract is fine if you buy once a year but when you buy several new phones every few months, cough cough, it becomes impractical
as for what you are missing? the only thing I can really think of is impatient people!
personally I just don't like being committed to contracts so only keep as basic contract so I get a free upgrade every year and then simply buy the sim free models when I fancy

I presume it's not in stock if that is stated, but due to arrive within the next day or two, as they usually state if items are in stock, if you look at the rest of their product range.
But hey, phone them up...I could be wrong with what I just stated above.
Hopefully they can give you a more specific answer. I don't work for them, I just try to find the best prices for mobile stuff. If I find cheaper, I take my business elsewhere.
As regards the sim-free issue, I often buy sim-free handsets for friends and family abroad, so that they can simply use their existing simcards. Even with the higher costs of sim-free, they are still cheaper than some other countries! And yes, I have also unlocked many PAYG phones, had them flashed etc. and working fine both here in the UK and abroad on different networks, but as most of you know, this will invalidate your warranty on the phone. Which is where sim-free comes in handy...
I can't speak for other people's reasons for buying sim-free, only from my own interests and needs, which I have already stipulated above.
