well whoever visited mobile-review might have found tht alcatel announced tht they are giving up on the joint venture with TCL china.
Although nothing really special on the product offer through out the year but it show how vunerable mobile business is at this day.
Imagine if T610 never come out.....I doubt K750 will bear the name of SonyEricsson then. |

I'm on wap. Are they closing down their mobile phone business? If they do guess who won't be shedding any tears.

yup agree it is nothing special.
but the impact might be bigger when siemens is doing something similar
or of course if sony ericsson went into the same situation 2yrs ago.
for one thing.....esato might not be the place SE product supporter gather to discuss on their favourite brand
about alcatel pull out....you can read it in the following link

So that's why Alcatel didn't manufacture something decent since 2001.As Boba knows crap about anything else execept Ericsson,so most of u.Did u know Alcatel implemented EMS,midi and true tones in mobile phones?or that they made a mobile smaller than 8310 2 years b4 that one? They were revolutionary until dealing thru that chinese firm.

@701
don't put as if everyone here didn't take note on alcatel.
Yup Alcatel is the company tht come out a phone the size of 8210 with EMS, midi tone etc at the time T29 and T39 came out.
I remember tht maybe as I am in a country where this phone was a major hit....sorry i can't remember the model number except to the design of the navi key tht look very similar T68 but only allow up/ down and z direction (for accept command)
it is also one of the company that follow ericsson trend in making a chatboard....conincidently...it is also made in malaysia.
their product range always have a foot hold in malaysia until their joint venture.
not to mention it is one of the few pioneer tht come out with budget colour screen product |

Acatel seemed to have much promise years ago, producing reliable budget and medium-class phones.
I actually owned a few but left them finally when I saw their product range had nothing to cater for my specific needs.

Hope they come back as SE did cuz they deserve it.I've owned quite a few and they were very reliable;not very expensive though.

never owned an alcatel, but I played around with some of the One Touch phones of Alcatel and I must say I even prefer Sagem above Alcatel.
I only know Alcatel from low end "budged" phones, but there are so many, SE makes low end phones, so does Nokia, Samsung, Motorola... there is just not much profit in that ($ 33mln loss for Alcatel)

It is becoming undeniably clear that focussing on basic, budget phones as a primary market does not pay.
Funny; isn't it? One would expect the opposite to be the case. Alcatel phones are more often than not budget - and very basic in features and functionality.
They had a few medium and high-end ones but those were more of experiments and they never were successful in the market.

The only sad thing is that phones made in france for some reason had exceptional transmition. And now mitsubishi and Alcatel are gone we're stuck with Sagem only. Sometimes you just need a phone that can pickup a signal where everything else can't. I think its sad too. |

I think Nokia picks a strong signal too! better than SE!
I will get comments on this one !
