Hi,

Go to this site

http://www.mobil.se/nyheter/visa.asp?id=5448&sid=1

and check the price on upcoming P800!?! If I calculated it wright, 8650 SEK is around 910 EUR! This is going to be a very expensive dream! I wonder if I should rather go for Nokia 7650 (I realy don't like it to much, but it is at least in my price range)!

Well guys, you pay for what you get. Personally I think it's a fair price. You've got to remember that this is a lot more than a mobile phone, it's a video camera, digital photo-camera MP3-player, PDA and a lot more. Try to by all of this as seperate units and I'm quite sure you'll find that the P800 is not that expensive after all. KS

The P800 is the most advanced PDA/phone in the world and the price will be high. Please don't compare with the price of Nokia 7650 because they are too much different.

In the article they have just taken the price from the first web shop that has put a price on it. It doesn`t need to be anywhere near the real price. They may have just put a price so that people can start ordering it in advance. The shops always put a high price on the first shipment of phones.

I have a question about the headphone solution for the p800: Does anyone now what kind of plug they will use. I think i have read on the net that they will use the standard ericsson plug, but will there be a way to connect a normal jack to the phone and use another pair of headphones?

I had the Siemens SL45 and the system with a special plug and headphones with built-in handsfree worked good, but I always missed not being able to connect it to things like the home stereo.
It`s the only good thing about the Nokia 5510. There you can use normal small jack and also record on the phone from external sources using a normal jack.

Go to:

http://www.telcommohr.de/INDEX2.HTM

Click on 'Shop' then 'Online-Shop' and then 'MobilFunk' in the middle of the screen. Choose 'SonyEricsson' or 'Nokia':

P800 - 749 EUR (they are expecting it by the end of August)
7650 - 689 EUR

With these prices, I really don't understand why anybody would want to buy a 7650.

I reckon it'll be priced the same (or very slightly above) the 7650. It doesn't offer that many advantages, and is being pitched at the same market. SE have already lost out in launching after the 7650, and over-pricing it would not be a good idea.

and Solmyr > "You've got to remember that this is a lot more than a mobile phone, it's a video camera, digital photo-camera MP3-player, PDA and a lot more. "

Well the mobile part is worth about £100 (with contract) you can buy a better camera for £60, and Mp3 player for £50 or less). OK, so the PDA part is better than normal, but I'd guess it's still nowhere as good as a dedicated one.

Hopefully in about 6 weeks we will know how much they are charging, because it will be in the shops.

I agree they have to compete on price with the 7650, if you want a mass market device, it has to have a mass market price.

The price quotes was probably contract-free (unsubsidised).

If you want a proper Symbian/Psion organiser then it's not bad if you buy it on contract (providing the service provider decides to subsidise it). The Nokia 7650 is already pretty big (too thick) and the P800 is bigger still, but if you want an organiser and phone combination the P800 it should be considered.

If all you want is a phone with a built-in camera and MMS, then hold out for the Japanese phones in a couple of months as they are much smaller like the Samsung T100 in size but better spec,'ed and 65k colours over the Nokia's 4096.

The Nokia is somewhere in-between the P800 and the forthcoming Japanese camera-phones. In reality, the Nokia was rushed out for MMS. Not enough memory for real PDA use and even then it is limited by the operating system to things such as a 25 voice-dialling limit despite enough memory for more etc.

Adamrj: I agree that dedicated items will be a better choice if you wanted to buy them as that. My point is simply that in the P800 you'll get it all in one go... The price reffered to in the first post is a lot of money for most of the members in this forum, but as I mentioned earlier, it's a lot more than just a phone.
The P800 will be tool for profesial users. A carpenter looking for a propper hammer would never buy a hammer in a toy shop, if you know what I mean.
The S800 IS going to be amongst the most expensive phones on the market, we all have to realise that. I think it's going to be worth every cent.
