Researchers with a grant from the National Science Foundation have developed a tiny,nuclear-powered battery. Although the new battery currently produces significantly less energy than conventional chemical batteries (like rechargeable ones found in mobile phones),it can produce more electricity than any other similar design, and the tritium that is used to provide the nuclear energy could power a device for decades.

Here's a brief description of Tritium with a more detailed one here

Tritium (Hydrogen-3) is an isotope of hydrogen gas.It can be man-made, but it is also a naturally occurring substance that is produced by cosmic ray action and by the decay of natural radionuclides in rocks and soil. It is a colorless, odorless gas, lighter than air. It is present in air and water all over the earth and is regularly ingested and breathed by everyone. All humans contain trace amounts of tritium and several other naturally occurring radioisotopes.

Have read something related from the Spectrum magazine of the IEEE.
It is very promising technology.

I have a keyring full of tritium on my car keys, and house keys!

They will still be glowing in 20 years. .

cool! everyone no worry about radiation poisoning. You are more likely to die a horrible, premature death from electro-magnetic radiation (gsm/umts/microwave/bluetooth/powerplant lines) than from beta radiation from tritium.

Can i ask what you were doing in the woods at night? (just kidding)

I will be ordering my set of these today,i can see that it has quite a practical use aswell looking good dangling from the keys.

Would'nt this look good incorperated into phones?...or would that look tacky?....Might help if this could show the radiation levels inside the nuclear phones. [addsig]

We were putting on a free party, and dropped keys when carrying the generator.

Would never have found them without em!
