O2 (useless) and SMS problem |

O2's website is about the most useless uninformative site I have ever been to in my life.
I have a Vodafone mobile on my T68 (upgraded to i software) and all is hunky dorey and we are happy. My mate was up here from SA and bought a prepaid O2 card with him that he bought about 2 years ago. When he left, he left it with me so I could lend it to other mates who came up here. The only problem is it can't send SMS's. It used to be able to. I threw it into my old 7110 to try get it working.
When I try text I get the error message “Number not in use”. The same problem occurs when I try to reply to a message I have received. I can receive messages fine. I can make and recive calls fine. I just can't send SMS's. Which is damn near useless.
I tried to look for help on your website, but I failed to find anything useful. I ran in circles for ages. I have never seen a website with so little actual information on. The "Text Message FAQ" has 1 question "How do I know I've got a text message?". Um What? Thats the most frequently asked question? Perhaps they should have spent more money on a useful website than stupid adverts with bubbles. I was tempted at one point to move to them because of their 500 free texts offer. But now that I have seen how useless they are I will stick with Vodafone that has served me just fine for the last 4 years.
Anyone got a usefull answer regarding the text problem

Ok so I sent a email to O2. Got back the automated reply. It's a gem.
- This is our automated acknowledgement, just to let you know we have received your enquiry. You will receive a personal reply shortly and certainly within the next 5 working days. However, due to a substantial increase in our e-mail volumes, some enquiries may take a little longer
5 days? Email is easier to respond to than phone calls. USELESS. Oh they may take longer. Any bets as to if they reply at all?

Um right. New name, same old rubbish. And even if they bring out sophisticated services no one will be able to use them cause their cosutomer service is rubbish. Pah!

Is your sms service centre set up correctly?
only thing i could think of off the top of my head... could be completely wrong. |

I have tried the O2 service centre that I found on some other site (its not anywhere on O2's site (idiots, why do they bother?)) Which is +447802000332
I have also tried the Vodafone SMSC which didn't work either. |

i fink o2 have a prob at mo with their SMSC's cos im on o2 and no1 can do reply 2 me, they can txt me from writing a new txt but if they try 2 reply they get numbner not in use
its intermittent and 4 the last week has bin ok but i fink its cum bk now
its really bad of o2 2 have these kind of issues !!

Ask you mates to try take off the setting that says reply using same message sender as original and see if that works.
I cant send either way so it seem O2 cannot use other SMSC's and their own one is buggered.
Brillaint. They may have the best offer with their 500 free messages. Thats cause no one can use the damn thing.

I have o2, well the old genie one. And i haven't had a problem with texting. It could be that the sim card is a bit buggered! |

How would a buggered sim card only affect outgoing SMS's?
Surely there would be other problems? I mean if it can recive (& make) calls and messages it can obviusly connect to the the O2 network, surely the phone does the rest? |

Are you using the right service center number?
It should be +491760000433, same for both Loop and normal O2 customers. I used to have a Loop card, but a friend has it now so I can't confirm that 100%, but I believe it is the same (I remember the number).
That is definately the number for normal users. I have a O2 Genion account.

Ok I tried that SMSC. Now I get a "message not sent this time" error message.
Any Ideas? |

Ok I used +447802092035 as the SMSC and it works. yaaaah. finally.
I found the number off http://www.vodatones.com/smsclist.htm for what its worth.
You think O2 would have this number on their next to fecking useless site.

I'm on O2 and my SC number is +44780209203 and i've neva had problems sendin msgs, can't eva get enuff signal to actually have a proper conversation for any length of time tho!

I know what you mean about useless 5151 and it just rings forever than it cuts off and you have to redial, have used all networks apart from orange and have never had any problems. Yet now with o2 I am being told by my mates that they cannot reply to my texts all they get is number not in use

Yeah, I have had the problem too with pO2intless. I think your friends need to take off the bit that says reply using same messge centre as sender. O2 closes off their SMSC's or something.
Ex-Parastateals are all the same. It's amazing how I was considering moving too their 500 free text's package until this. So they have lost a customer just for having a shit website. It would probably save me 40 quid a month. But I just can't do it for the nightmare its going to cause.
O2 if you are reading this here is a buisness tip. Try actually offer the services you advertise. Make it easy for your smart customers who know what they are doing to get the settings and information they need without spending 17 hours on your support line talking to idiots. Reply to your emails within hours not days. |

nah its not 2 do wit me m8s using SMSC cos ive checked
i cant b assed 2 wad thru the lame site or spend 3 dyas queing 2 chat 2 sum1 or wait a month 4 an automated mail reply so iz just gonna live wiv ti till o2 get it sorted

O2 use at least two SMSC numbers, one for PAYG and one for Contract
+447802092035 / +447802000332 respectively.
There does seem to be some problem with replying to their messages though which is a bit of a weird one, affecting some phones on some networks (eg the Orange SPV, Nokia 8310 on Voda so far known about).. anyone got any ideas what the hell this could be? |
