Hey all. 1st time poster, long time lurker.

I'm trying to debrand/upgrade my AWFUL Vodafone K700i. The default firmware plus whatever proprietary junk that Vodafone has put on this thing makes it almost unusable. I successfully unlocked the phone using Davinci. So far, so good.

Now I'm trying to upgrade the firmware. Upon connection to Davinci I get the following:

---
Client Version 13.0
**** READING CID STARTED ****
Shortly press Power button!
Detected SonyEricsson: K700/K300/K500/S700/Z500.
Status Ok, OTP Close, CID29, PAF1
IMEI: 354006-00-025153
Phone CID 36
You must use CID36 Flash Files For this phone!
Press button - "Get Files From Web" and download free firmware
Execution Time - 00:00:12
Done!
---

OK, then I did the firmware flash:

---
Client Version 13.0
Shortly press Power button!
Detected SonyEricsson: K700/K300/K500/S700/Z500.
Status Ok, OTP Close, CID29, PAF1
IMEI: 354006-00-025153
Flash file CID:36
Flashing 217 blocks...
address: 44D2DB74, block: 217/217
C:\Program Files\Davinci\Flashes\K700i_MAIN_EU_EMEA_US_R2AT003_CID36.bin flashed successfully
Flash file CID:36
Execution Time - 00:21:50
Lost connection with phone. Try to flashing on lower speed. Close all applications, especially ICQ and WinAmp, check the battery charge, check cable connection and try again.
---

Despite the "lost connection" it looks like the upgrade was succesful. I was flashing R2AT003 on my phone and sure enough, R2AT003 is on there.

Thing is, I'm stil greeted by the Vodafone "How Are You?" crap and the rest of the ugly branding. I thought that would all be wiped clean.

Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated!

by the looks of it you flahsed the voda firm, you need the r2al firmware eu2, tick get main firm and the other box there too, of you can see r2al click on refresh.
also make sure your battery is FULLY charged.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply!

It seems unlikely that I'd download the Vodafone firmware from Davinci right? I'm pretty perplexed.

The f/w I picked from their list is: "K700 R2AT003 EU2: EN FR DE ST ZU TR" as I understand the R2AT003 to be the latest (and R2AL029 to precede it). The files that actually show up when I downlod them are "K700i_MAIN_EU_EMEA_US_R2AT003_CID36.bin" and "K700i_FS_EU2_R2AT003_CID36.bin."

Another quick question: after the semi-successful upgrade I still can't use the SEUS. As I understand it Vodafone doesn't like the SEUS so I need to change the CDA right?

ok mate hers the problem, you need this firmware R2AL029 as that is the latest Generic unbranded firmware download all the firles that associate with that, also here is the generic CDA to allow Use of the SEUS

CDA Number: CDA102298/83
CDA Revision: R2A
Model: K700i
Language Variant Name: EU_1 / EU_2 / EU_3 (choose one as appropriate depending on which you flashed with)

Then just click the "Change it now!" button.

jagger - you rock! Many thanks!

One more quick question: when I'm doing the f/w upgrade, do I want to check "finalization" on the "flash" page or should I change the CDA settings to what you told me and then click "use these settings for finalization?"

Thanks again!

put the cda settings in first and after that tick the finalization box, then go back to the firmware tab as select the files and finalize there too. and click flash.

Let me know how it works out.

Well it's getting weirder. I am now looking at my phone with the R2AL029 f/w on it so suffice it to say the flash worked. Alas, I got the "connection lost" at the end of the flashing process, and it still gives me the Vodafone screens at startup and shutdown. SEUS also fails to work despite trying the new CDA.

The good thing is my credits aren't getting used up (presumabley do to the connection loss) so I've got the chance to play with it some.

Well now it's not looking so good. The last flash I tried to do failed in the middle and the thing is dead to the world. I took out the battery, let it sit a while, and have now put it on the charger (is it actually working though I see no charging indication?). I'll give it another shot shortly.
