Hey all,

I live in the UK and am awaiting the release date. I can't remember how much the K700i was when it came out but you can now purchase it on Ebay for about 80 GBP and in stores from anywhere between 120-140, SIM free.

Looking to buy a K750 when it comes out, SIM free... anyone have any ideas?

It hasn't even been released yet (Hong Kong release date is May 28) and I've already seen some very dodgy looking auctions on Ebay UK for the K750.

Thoughts, anyone?

It'll be around £300.

My bet is it'll be around £330-£350. Since the K700i was £330 upon release last year, and the K750i is a higher spec phone compared to its rivals (K700i was slightly old compared to phones that came out around the same time) it'll probably cost a little more.

Hence why i reckon £350 including the extortionate VAT.

How long do you think it will take for the price to go down?

I wonder what it will sell for on Ebay...

On a side note, any UK mobile users out there - can you explain to me why it costs less to buy a phone Pay as you go instead of buying it totally SIM free?

Does anyone think there will be a price difference between buying it Pay as you go versus SIM free?

It'll take between 1 and 3 months for the price to go down. Usually after a month, phones like the K750i and K700i go down by about £50. Sometimes it takes a little longer.

You're more likely to get one cheaper from online websites or ebay than buying direct from SE or a retail store like Carphone Warehouse. Just be careful the site / ebayer you buy from is trustworthy.

It costs less to buy a phone on PAYG because you're buying a branded handset, usually locked to the PAYG network you bought the phone on. Operators offer subsidised handsets on the basic agreement that you'll become a customer. They give you the phone cheaper, and recoup any loses from you topping up your PAYG account.

Sim free phones are always more expensive because you're getting the raw phone free of any ties.

History repeats itself every time a new phone is launched; First the price is high, the geeks (like us) are running like mad to get their hands on the first limited batch that are let out on the market. (This batch is ripped off the shelves in a matter of days.)
Then a couple of weeks after a new limited batch are let out on the market. That is for the rest of the geeks (like us) that didn't get one form the first batch and have been cursing and swearing in here because they weren't fast enough. (Prices are still high.)
A couple of weeks later the full launch is let out for everyone to buy unlimited. The first two weeks the prices are still high but it eases off gradually.

If you are patient enough to wait for two months you'll start seing a drop in price.

Thanks etaab... do you know how long you have to agree to topping your pay as you go account for? Because theoretically you could just say "Yes" and go with the pay as you go card and then stop topping it up after a month or so....

You dont have to.

I dont, but my friend buys PAYG phones on a network, pays for them to be unlocked and then uses his own sim card.

Its a cheap way of getting a phone, but you're stuck with a different operators branding than your own.

For example, he always buys T-Mobile PAYG phones, gets them unlocked and uses his Orange sim card in them because Orange PAYG phones are usually more expensive.

Just because you buy a PAYG phone, you do not have to use the PAYG sim that came with it.

Oh, and does anyone have any thoughts about the weird dodgy ebay auctions... here's an example...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBay[....]774766210&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

So on a whim I emailed the seller and here's the response I got... pretty lame -

Hello sir,
I have a fixed price for my phones. Please let me know how many would you like to buy and I shall make a price for you.
As for the phones, they are all brand new in their unopened boxed. They will come to you with all their standard accesories and 1 year of international warranty provided by the manufacturer. Also, you should know that they are unlocked in all networks.
I am waiting for your response...
Thanks, George

OK first of all I am a girl - notice the weird "hello SIR." Second of all... this guy signs his email George yet the email name is Thomas Johnson? Ok fine that's all fine and dandy, but I just got a very bad feeling.

I dunno... some very unscrupulous people out there...

Branding as in the little company logo on the phone? Not that big of a deal... and as far as I know only orange and t-mobile do that... but it's a good idea. However if you commit to doing it, then can't the company bust you on it and you get in trouble? I'm from Canada and we have a very different mobile system...

@ samigirltoo, forget ebay auctions for now, at least until the phone is released. We could probably guess 99.9% of them are all fakes or scams.

Branding goes deeper than the company logo on the case of the phone. The phones software can also be branded. So, instead of the SE menu, you might get a Orange or T-mobile menu. Also, some functions might be disabled such as MP3 ringtones or the use of shortcuts.

I've even heard cases where some french customers have had their Bluetooth function disabled by the french networks.

Then, theres also extra items you cannot delete, such as screensavers, pictures or videos.

A typical example is a friends K700i. He bought it on Orange PAYG. For a start, he cannot use MP3s as ringtones. He cannot use shortcuts, half of the Settings are missing in the settings icon, the SE menu is all coloured orange which cannot be changed, on his standby screen he has some weird Orange shortcuts, he cannot delete some Orange pictures off his phone, and finally he is unable to send some pictures / videos / ringtones because they're protected by Oranges copyright.

Dont worry however about buying a phone on one network and then getting it unlocked to use on another, it is perfectly legal and theres not a thing the network operators can do to stop you.

Welcome to Esato.

To be honest, right now, nobody knows for sure. We're all just speculating.

The best thing to do is check your local phone store / website for a rough price.

Carphone Warehouse have it on their computer system at £299 SIM-free although they haven't got any stock yet.

O2 have it in their latest brochure at £299.99 SIM-free and £249.99 Pay & Go. Also free on O2 200 and above tariff, £49.99 on O2 100 and above tariff and £99.99 on all other tariffs. O2 also don't have stock yet but it says ARRIVING THIS MONTH
