Hello everyone,
Sorry to bug you with a question about this old ass phone, I have searched these forusm to no avail, therefore I post this message for help.
Today I used my T68i no problems. I had a gig and placed my phone in my pocket so no idiot would step on my backpack and crush the phone.
When I go out I receive a call but i can't be heard. I powered off and back on teh phone umpteenth times. Tried sound recording. nothing. I cannot be hear at all.
I even tried the brute force mthod of slamming the phone a bit against something. Nothing.
What could be happening? The phone was ALL NIGHT in my pocket and not crushed at all, it worked fine until I entered the venue (a club with loud music, never been an issue before) and now it doesnt work and I am desperate becaise I need my phone for work.
Is there anything I can do or this is a case to take into some Sony Ericsson official dealer?
Thanks in advance for any info provided.
[edited to add: I did the Microphone service test. I cannot hear myself. I don't understand this, what could have happened? I DID NOT crush the phone and it was working fine until some hours ago, not even flakyness!!!!! ]

It could just be a case of taking the phone apart and cleaning the inside out of dust. Also, check the microphone contacts. These are two little prongs which contact with the PCB, these often become flattened over time, and just need carefully pulling upwards so they will make contact with the PCB again. I've had faulty T68is, and this is usually solved by doing this.

I've had this problem with my t300, & the good ol method of hitting it would do the trick for a while.... Eventually I had to take it to an electronics repair guy who fixed it for free!! |

Well I am an anxious person and took it to an official Sony Ericsson repair centr. I wonder how much will they want for cleaning the phone andchecking teh contacts if the price is stupid I'll take it home, try this out and see wht happens.
Time to buy those strange screwdrivers. what sort of screws does it have?
Thank you very much for yoru prompt reply!
By the way, we're currently on a VERY HUMID weather, for a few days now. Could this be a problem? Also I can't help but think of all the smoke, nicotine and shit that lies in a club environment. Never was a problem before but one never knows...

I had the same problem, in fact it was the final straw leading to an upgrade. The humidity may be the clue, mine became faulty after being in a sweaty pocket...very few phones are waterproof. Sorry but your looking at a new microphone! |

It's a T6 screwdriver that you need, you can get them for a pound or two off ebay.
I think if it was humidity or moisture that did that, it would probably have killed the phone completely, i.e. not switching on!

@guy - Might as well let those tekkies handle your fone pal. It might result to a costlier move if you are the one who'll fix it. Good Luck! Or better yet, send your fone to Sammy Boy and he'll take care of everything, right - Sammy err, Sammy where are you?

Well guys I got it back from the Sony Ericsson dealer. It got fixed for something like 10 dollars.
They said it was a "logic board fix" but I seriously doubt that, however, it was impossible for me to get to talk to a techie without insulting like 10 counter women first so I let the cash go and got the phone.
I tihkn it's as sammy said, and the microphone somehow got loose and needed a reseat. I will buy the T6 thing for next time.
Many thanks for your help! |

Thanks for the update!
yes, I bet it was simply a case of reseating the mic or it's contacts, that logic board thing is probably a posh techie way of saying it!
