Which networks in this country (i.e UK) support the use of Opera and Agilemessenger. I know O2 do (with Mobileweb) but what about O2 pre-pay and other networks (both post-pay and pre-pay)

Also which network ha the cheapest GPRS (data) charges?

Cheers for any feedback.

I meant FULL INTERNET ACCESS, Internet over GPRS.
When a mobilephone has a built in HTML internet browser (e.g. Opera, Pocket Internet Explorer, NetFront etc.) it requires a different APN.

It seems that no one on Esato has ever used Opera or other such applications that require Full Internet over GPRS on a pay-as-you-go/pre-pay sim card.

Please somebody prove me wrong as Customer services haven't got a clue.

for agile messenger, you require igprs...and the only payandgo sim that can offer this is orange uk afaik.opera and netfront work fine on o2 payg and all other networks.i only use these networks,so can't comment on data charges on other networks.o2 through proxy server is free but absolute crap...orange is MUCH better but chargeable.hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I just tried to connect to Opera using my normal O2 pay monthly Wap account and although I was connected, I couldn't actually open any web pages. Everything works fine with my Mobileweb account though.

no problem mate.with o2 payg i use the following settings in opera/netty ;proxy enabled:tick,server:193.113.200.195 and port 8080...and same in netfront, and don't have any difficulties opening large web pages.re your comment,i used to call this message board a 'tree of knowledge',over time though, you'll be more inclined to think of it as the 'bush of ignorance'...don't get me wrong, there's a few very helpful and unbiased members on here...but the vast majority seem to be precisely the opposite, and only interested in a super high post count status.

Ok. I just got off the phone with the Virgin Mobile Technical department enquiring about their GPRS network.

I asked them about Internet over GPRS. I explained to them that my phone has a built in Internet browser (I emphasised the difference between Wap 2.0 and HTML browsers). Then I told them that I wanted to use my phone as a modem and connect it to my laptop to surf the net. They said to do that I could only use CSD for that and not GPRS.
Am I right in saying that both Opera and using my P900 as a modem, connected to my laptop to browse the web would both require an Internet-over-GPRS account, like O2 MobileWeb?

I really hope that you got unlim or free wap for that OR it will be very costly.
Wap > internet
1. setup wap preferably with auto config from provider > control panel > WAP accounts > Edit (wap account) > write down address from feald addres
2. control panel > internet accounts > proxy > insert addres that you got before port 8080

So now you should be able to brows internet. Email client will not work!!! same might be with ICQ. Also you can use this trick with proxe to get online from PC.
