Checking to see if POP3 SSL is supported on S700i. The phone options are all there but I checked with SE support in Australia and they said no. I searched past threads on this forum and I'm not sure if anyone has it working.

I can use POP3 email for non SSL accounts without any problems - but once I try a POP3 SSLaccount, the SEND/REC works if there are no emails (connects to the server and displays a msg that there are no emails) but if there are emails, it hangs while displaying RECEIVING emails. If I try and cancel the SEND/REC, the phone freezes and needs rebooting. Sounds like the same problem that others have experienced on other SE phones ...

I have it set up to receive HEADERS only and with the SSL DOMAIN and other settings as supplied by my work's IT department. The phone is new so I assume it has recent firmware installed. Optus Australia is the telco service provider.

My other aleternative to access work email is via ms exchange webmail - but this uses html frames so the S700i web browser loads the page OK but I cant navigate the site to enter userid/password.

Has anybody successfully used S700i with POP3 SSL email?
Does anybody know if SE will fix POP SSL email with a future firmware upgrade?

Thanks in advance.

just upgraded s700i firmware to latest from SE website - and tried again and success (at last)!

Strange - I had asked SE support if it was worth upgrading firmware to see if this fixed the problem and they replied SSL is not supported on the S700i ...

So to anyone else having problems with SSL, you might want to consider upgrading to R3M firmware.
