Can anyone confirm Vlam's answer (preferably a V800 owner/user)?

But TWO different people gave me TWO different answers!

I suspected you were right, but I wanted a second opinion to confirm it...

My Friends is built in to some SE handsets which are unbranded. If you use MSN Messenger, AIM and ICQ etc you can set up your phone to use all these at the same time so that you are always online but on your mobile phone.

You can attach pictures to contacts, you can set up alerts when people come online and you get alerts when you receive messages. It is also free to set up however you do pay for data charges (which tend to be very low anyway.) Unbranded S700i, T630 and K700i are phones which have this feature.

Almost all un-branded Sony Ericsson phones since the T630 have "My Friends..."

Off the top-of-my-head, this includes the K300i, K500i, K700i, P910i (I could be wrong about this one...) Z1010 and Z800i.

ALL new (un-branded) Sony Ericsson phones will also have My Friends...

My Friends is known as "IM" on Motorola phones and "My Presence" on Nokia phones.

See yamigo.com for information on setting it up...

Some useless trivia...

The "Wireless Village Project" is a joint-venture by certain major mobile telecommunications and portable computing companies (namely Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson) to bring real-time instant messaging to mobile devices...

My Friends is Sony Ericsson's Wireless Village client; Motorola's has the unimaginative name of "IM," whilst Nokia's is called "My Presence."

My Friends DOESN'T alert you to when new buddies come online, only when you receive instant messages...

This is probably one of the few flaws in the client.

Ah my friend but you are incorrect, although it is partly my fault for misleading you with my lazy inglish.

When you have logged in:

MESSENGING >>> MY FRIENDS >>> "choose contact" >>> MORE >>> MANAGE CONTACT >>> ALERT WHEN ONLINE.

Then when one of your very good friends come online the handset plays the message alert.

Darraaaah! You get an alert when one of you contacts comes online. You have to set this beforehand for each contact but the principle is the same.

This must be a new feature, 'cause my Z1010 can NOT be set to alert me when contacts come online...
