I've noticed that when I plug a data cable into my T68i while Infrared is activated, it automatically becomes deactivated. If you're doing this with a data cable, try to activate the Infrared without the cable.
Hope this helps.

Do you have the Communicam attached? It's a known problem that the infrared port is not available when this is attached (with software version R2A014).
I don't know if this has been fixed in a later software version.

no, no data cable or communicam attached, although a communicam was connected at one point, but that should not disable it permanently... right? It's really weird because it is not greyed out, it actually allows me at activate it, but it immediated gives me the infrared deactivated message. |

this also happened to me once i had filled up them memory on my phone. i deleted a few things and it made no difference then after a few days the problem sorted it self out. but you could try holding red phone button till phone turns off while keylock is on as this helped mine

hmm, thanks for the suggestion, but that did not seem to fix the problem... I'm starting to get frustrated because I can't seem to find a blue-tooth adapter for my computer in stock and SonyEricsson's response to my problem was a form letter with instructions on how to turn on the infrared with no acknowledgement of my problem... |

I'm experiencing similar problem on my T39m. It worked few days back, but after I uploaded GPRS settings from my mobile provider, it doesn't work anymore (can't turn ON Infrared port). Still haven't got any answer on how to fix it... |

I tried the same once on my t68i.
It was sorted out by doing a master reset on the phone.
It might be worth a try
