How to spot a SCAMMER |

I thought I should create this thread, seeing as I was scammed and might have a few pointers to help smell a rat.
I am thinking we should have a point system implemented like MIKLSP has done but stars underneath our rating. Not every person knows to go to the trusted sellers list.
So we have scammers within us, no suprise but lets flush them out and make this a place for people to trade properly. I suggest for ALL NEWBIES to either send the item first especially to a GOOD STAR**** rated member and then the cash will follow shortly.
A land line number is essential, and so is the persons account number and sort code as it can tell alot. Try and pay via credit card as you will be sorted should the scammer do a runner (NOT SWITCH OR SOLO). Also use Paypal as opposed to direct banking as you will have a physical record of the transaction.
If you smell a RAT report the matter immediatly to the Police and Bank, So as to put a freeze on the persons account. Dont feel because it was only £10 that it doesnt matter, because this person will do it to your fellow member and they might loose £1000.
@Laffen I am hoping you can add some light of the security measures that you can offer us, as in logging IP's etc and location details of the person should they scam us.
Thanks to everyone for the support in helping me with my scammer...The Fight Continues.

This is NOT a trading forum. And... this is NOT a trading forum.

You have my vote on this matter themarques as, as I say, I was scammed myself by someone here. I'd support a system like this for trading here for some added peace of mind. I do like getting items off people here, as it tends to be cheaper than Ebay, and generally a damn site friendlier, as ever it's a small minority of people that me and themarques (and others) have had the unfortunate luck to encounter.

Sure people trade. But why bring laffen in to it with IP logs etc.? Doesn't he do enough for us without having to mother us to?

The star is a good idea. But bringing Ip logs is a bad idea.

The idea does have it's merit's but i think it would be yet another chore for the mod's as they have enough to do as it is. Maybe an esato approved trader list could be made to work alongside the trusted seller section. Sellers would register their details which could then be confirmed and then details given to each party in the event of any problems.

@govigov The I.P will only be giving out if a problem happens.
@Abs its a chore, but at the same time we make this place what it is so when asking for a little security surely that is not asking the world.
@ Rookwise Nice idea, this is why I started this thread for input..

Also, people with under 100 post should not be able to sell! only buy.
I trade in couple of other forums mainly involving PC's and the requirements are you have to get 100 posts and wait 1 month to get member market activated.
I've made over 50+ deals worth from £5 to £1000 and never been scammed (touch wood).
I think the members market forum will be better place if it had similar system like ocuk, bit-tech and kustompc etc. |

It doesnt matter what security systems are in place scams will always happen, Ebay spend millions on their "security" and it hasnt really made any sort of difference,
If laffen were to introduce some sort of security system then it will cost a fortune, i dont see why he should pay to allow a few certain members to constantly sell on the esato market "safely".
All what would happen is people being charged for selling and buying in the market, it would be good income for ESATO but at the end of the day its a mobile phone forum

thing about ebay is u can register and start buying/selling straighaway.
Most scammers wouldn't waste time hanging around forums posting 100+ and then waiting 1 month to get activated to use the members market.
I know there will always be scammers but this will help to bring the numbers down a little.
little is better then allowing scammers roam around freely.
