O2 are sending 'courtesy messages' to say that O2 GPRS is coming to an end, they quote the period that they haven't been charging individuals and that it's all over.
Anyone else getting them? I know of three people now.
"O2 Courtesy Message: We have not charged you for data calls outside your bundle since DATE. You won't be charged for these but normal charges will commence on 1 May." |

I think they are running a bit scared. I also have an old Genie tariff and they're offering an upgrade without having to change the tariff to a new one, which they never would before.
Customers must be dropping like flies so charging for data is a sure fire way to lose some more!
I'm not sure I agree about the price plans though. The online ones are really quite reasonable when you look at the likes of orange for example. O2 could do with a bit more customisation at contract level. They concentrate far too much on their pay as you go customers. |

There price plans are to expensive (for me) I used to pay £13 a month with tmobile for 750 free anytime mins a month and 50 free txts.
But with o2 its £20 for 100 mins (off peak) and 50 free txts. Cant wait till my contract runs out!!!

i dont think any1 using port 8080 should be worried.
it hasnt been mentioned in the txt messages.
i think its a case of pay monthly ppl using thier allowance then still getting it for free that are gonna be affected.
can any1 on payandgo confirm wether or not they got this txt?
i havnt! |

are people still getting free GPRS on o2 UK PAYG? Have just got a sim and have been trying all manner of settings (have seen posts on various websites detailing port, username, pwd and IP etc) but as yet no joy. Id figured it wasnt free through port 8080 any longer as all the posts ive read are quite old.
Are people here still getting it for free at the moment - if so i will persevere with getting it to work.

I've been getting charged for GPRS since Nov 04 and I'm on O2 contract. GPRS alone is in excess of £45 on this months bill I got yesterday.

That's interesting as the texts I've seen all state since Nov 2004. Perhaps they have identified a data-fix to their billing problem. It's lucky they're not back-charging as is their right!

yes i got that txt 2day howeva it duz say "We have not charged you for data calls outside your bundle since Nov 04" and according to my online bill, I've neva used my gprs allowance anyways so by the looks of it, I think i mite still have it free coz they cant track it. It hasnt bin the case where ive used up my allowance, gone over and they havent charged me, the bill shows i havent even used my allowance ever!

I have been with O2 contract since Dec 03 and have never been charged a penny so far (touchwood!) in data charges! No special setup, settings gotten from the O2 website when I've changed phones, both on O2 GPRS and O2 Mobileweb settings.
I've heard people sounding the death knell for free GPRS on O2 before, and it hasn't come to fruition, but I will wait with baited breath on this one.... I have to say that removing the free GPRS will remove a very good reason for staying with O2 on contract, I'd be tempted to go back to Orange, they imo are a very good all-round network.
