I have a online pay onthly account with 02.
Back in Feb there was a mix up and my bill wasnt paid, i revieved a text telling me that i needed to ring the number in the text and make a patyment or my phone would be cut off.
I rang the number it was completly automated and i made a payment on my credit card. That was it finnished. My statement came in march and it was for £53. So i made sure i had the right amount in there for the date of the direct debit. A few days passed and the debit did not come out. I cept checking online to see if the bill was paid but nothing came up, now in the past it has been up to 3 days after the bill comes out, so i waited.
I have not recieved any text messages, phone calls and the online account still just showed the statement and when payment would be taken.
I now have been cut off till i pay the £53.... Now that is not really a problem, the problem i have is aparently you have to re-confirm you debit details once a payment has bounced. I was never told this, and i assumed that as the payment was all automated there was no need to do amything else.
Is it me or is this completly stupid ? whats the point in having an automated system if it donst tell you you need to re-confirm your details./ Im pretty pissed of as i need my phone but im not sure i want to pay them anything.

I take it the automated service does not give a reference number?
If not, i think it's pathetic of O2 to do this....

No, i went throught the paying process, card number, exp date, security number etc. then the payment was confirmed and the automatic lady thingy said thank you.
What gets me is there should be some sort of warning during the automated paying that says you must ring up 080 blah blah and re-confirm your direct debit or with out warning we will rodger you

Not sure I understand - are you saying that you shouldn't have to pay your bill because they should have taken it by DD, but didn't?
If so, as much as I would have to agree that it seems a strange way of operating by O2, I'm sure that you have no statutory or contractual right not to pay, especially given that your original DD presumably bounced, which is why you had to re-confirm it. This is odd, but not entirely illogical. I guess alot of DDs must bounce due to bank accounts being closed or not set up correctly, so it's not that stupid of them to request that you re-confirm it. Not telling you that you need to however, does seem pretty stupid. Either way, unfortunately, I believe you will have to pay to be reconnected!

Oh yer of course, i fully accept i will have to pay, thats the contract. What im saying is i think its down right stupid to not inform me of the situation and then just to block me with no warning, a text sent to me yesterday requesting payment would have sorted this out, as it stands i now have to wait till i get home to pay the charge meaing i cannot use my phone till then.
I think a small message, text, phone call what ever, would have easily avoided me bein cut off, even simpiler would have been a message when i paid the outstanding bill informing me i would need to confirm the DD again.

Absolutely agreed, but then again, I've found that my expectations have been lowered to the point of being non-existent when it comes to mobile networks (except my nice new employers at T-Mobile of course!)
