s700 with EDGE |

Hi, folks. I just got my s700. As a gift. But get this: for WAP options it offers GSM and EDGE! No GPRS. How come? I've been researching and reading many SE web pages (international and local), talked with local SE support phone and found nothing about a s700 with EDGE.
- "Sir, are you SURE your cell phone color is silver, not black?"
On top of this anomally, I stumbled across many discussion forums with people whining on "how everthing would be nice if only their s700 had EDGE..."
This could be considered impossible, right? I mean, this is firmware, not a piece of code which you could tweak somehow to exclude or include options, right? Has ANYONE ever heard something like this?
Oh, by the way: we only have GPRS for WAP in my town (S.Paulo, Brazil); not EDGE, so I can't DL any game for it. If there's a way to change this, would be greatly appreciated. Thanx. |

There are two phones in the S series, one is the S700 which has GPRS. the other is S710 for the american market, which has GPRS + EDGE.

Press one of the volume adjust buttons on the side. It will tell you the model of the phone.

I pressed the buttons, jcwhite_uk. It confirms my claims: it IS a s700i.
That's what I've been telling everybody, "it is not a s710, for sure".
By the way, there's new data on this.
I was playing with its settings yesterday and found out that when I set the language preferences to Portuguese (my native language - although I prefer to use it in English) the Data Communication menu surprinsingly offers the GPRS option!
And - alas! - I was able to configure it and connect normally to my local WAP right now.
I just returned to previous language settings and my s700 is still functional.
Thank you all for the posts.

What options did the EDGE menu have?

The EDGE might have actually been GPRS. Just a spelling mistake in the english option since it shows GPRS in portugal. Select EDGE and use the GPRS settings normally.

My s700 is silver. And it is a s700 for sure, as it cleary shows when I press the volume buttons on the side.
You know what? I think it might be some translation typo. Way too many menu items. Somebody's probably forgotten something, i don't know.
As for the Edge, it only says that: "Edge". Except for the missing APN field, the configs ask for IP, DNS, username, pw.
I tried to connect to GPRS although it spelled EDGE, but no luck. I was able to work it out only when I: 1) changed the language settings to Portuguese - which enabled the GPRS option, and 2) entered the APN address.
Odd, I know, but that's how it went.

I updated my S700i Firmware, so I needed to reinstall the wap profiles so I downloaded my service provider guides, on the GPRS data guide in PDF it says to choose EDGE data from the menu, but in mine only appears GPRS and GSM data |

By the way no GPRS data connection option for surfing the net with my laptop via S710.
Im loving this EDGE thing. Much much faster than GPRS connections
