3g is just gprs (i think) with a fast connection speed. vid calling can be possible through EDGE....but since 6680 came out, and im thinking a couple of other 3g phones will be out, it won't be long now b4 any of the telecoms would be signing for 3g development. if they hurry, we might see it 2007.

I honestly don't see the appeal of 3G anymore... for video calls? Seriously... other than your significant other, who would you want to see!?!??

And would you be willing to pay 6x the price per minute should Globe/Smart bring in 3G services?

All that speed on such a small device... when you can surf WiFi at higher speeds... lower cost.

That's called "marketing"!

Having a 3G phone now os pointless and honestly, stupid. You'll be running off the GSM networks 90% of the time... and the few times that you are within 3G coverage... who will you call? The 3 other people you know who have 3G phones who happen to be within 3G coverage as well?

Fast internet? Big deal... still slower than WiFi... and hi-speed internet on a phone isn't exactly as fun as hi-speed internet on a laptop. And when do you actually need hi-speed internet while on the move? As in, not in a WiFi spot.

3G is dead. By the time people need that speed on a mobile phone, 4G, or whatever they decide to call it, will be out. 3G is dead because its sole purpose of development was to cash-in on the mobile revolution...there was no demand for it. It will suffer the same fate as satellite phone systems like Iridium, GlobalStar and ACeS. Oh sure, they're all still around... but I don't want one. Not at the prices they're charging.

Unless 3G data/video rates will be equal to, or less than, current GSM rates, no one will really make the switch, since there's no real need to do so.
