I have k700. In this if i take any pic in lowest resolution its clear. But if i increase the photo size to higher resolution such as 640 * 480 or the extended mega pixel mode,The picture gets very spotted and not clear . Why?is this a common problem?

The picture gets grainy...even in videos movement isnt smooth..sudden motion makes video clarity worse |

They reason why it gets "bad" when setting higher resolution could be that the screen can't handle it since it only has 176*220 resolution.
Just a thought.

The extended mode uses interpolation, i.e. software enhanced resolution. This never produces very good results since it's a mathematical process and natural errors creep in.
640 x 480 resolution will naturally be fairly grainy simply because it's not a very high resolution and that the effects of compression are more noticable than with smaller images. 65k colour depth doesn't help either, particularly when viewing photos with lots of different shades of colour. Basically, some photos taken in 640x480 will look better than others, it depends on what you're taking a photo of and the lighting conditions. Simpler images require less compression.
Loss of video quality when there's lots of movement going on is down to the way that the mpeg compression system works. Moving images generate more information to be stored, which means that in order to keep the file size reasonabley low, the image quality has to be compromised. When there's not much movement, there's less information to store, so the image quality can be made higher. It's a dynamic process which happens automatically.

Ya. I know that clarity is better in daylight or in well lit places...but stil in dark places the pics are more grainy .,also if i transfer 640 * 480 sized pics to pc its not as clear as in lower resolutions..so i think screen size does not matter... |

When using lower resolution a number of the light sensing pixels are put together for each pixel in the picture.So just as a big window will let in more light than a small window,a light sensor with more surface area will gather more light to measure.The dots you see is electrical noise,the smaller the light sensing pixel (the surface area) and also how much light there is (how dark it is basically) means a higher noise to light ratio.Also the lens is quite small so it doesn't let much light through to fall on the sensor.Obviously,they make the imaging sensor smaller to fit in a mobile.
You can expect a 2 megapixel mobile phone picture to have more noise than a 2 megapixel digital camera picture.

But a megapixel phone doesn't have a megapixel screen,still it gives clear image.The prob is in the build quality of the phone itself,I've got complains on k700cam.Better try 2update with latest software

The K700 has actually a VGA camera, but uses software to similate a 1.2mp photo. However, once it gets over the native resolution, the quality suffers. However, the actual quality with good lighting and a steady hand is still very good.

Another thing i find out odd is that camera pics of k500 is reddish in colour..and k700 is slightly reddish when compared to nokia 6600...why?also what does the words vga 4.1 and the ratio 1:2:8 mean in the back side near the camera?
