In cooperation with Sony Ericsson, NTT DoCoMo is experimenting in using plastics created from plants for mobile phones. To be more specific, the plastic is created from the starch and sugars of corn and potatoes, which is then fermented with lactic-acid bacilli. The plastic is destined to become water and carbon dioxide, as it will slowly break down over time.

If it breaks down to water and carbon dioxide, its probably a plastic, so no edible phones yet.

Interesting news.

However, the plastic part is only a portion of the phone. There are a number of chips, metal, and the PCB board, which has highly toxic material. Also, the plastic part has be to colored.

So, to be 100% safe, not eat the phone yet.

phonemag reports that industry giant, NEC, and textile make,Unikita are working together to develop cell phones bodies made from 90% corn! Well, I bet you’re already thinking about getting one, but you’re gonna have to wait till’ June of next year. [addsig]

It's a start m8, the techology can use for other plastic products not just for mobiles.

Actually it's a clever idea. Conventional plastics are made from crude oil byproducts, which as we all know, will be in short supply and increasingly expensive in the future.
