Got an email today warning of different phone scams (usual “if you get a call claming you won a holiday press 9” thing) But one of them was

“If you receive a call with the word 'ACE' on the display, terminate the call immediately. It is a virus which will erase all IMEI and IMSI data from your SIM card. This in turn will prevent your mobile from connecting to any network, leaving you with the only solution which is to buy a new phone. This detail has been confirmed by both Motorola and Nokia”

^^is this even possible to do to a phone???

I've heard about this lately and I didn't see how it could be possible. For a start how do you get the name ACE on the display unless ACE is a number in your phone book and you get called from that number

as for the rest of that story... pffftt!

anyway a google came up with a few links like this...

Mobile phone virus: ACE is a hoax

Plus, its not even possible to just erase the phones IMEI number that way, it can only be done using a cable and necessary software AFAIK..

Who'd wanna spread that around? Odd.

N e wayz, i think only phones which are based on an OS (Like Symbian or Windows Mobile) are able to get viruses. Right?

Yeah, same here too! Btw you can suggest the twilight site to your friends via sms from their site-the recipient sees the name entered by the sender, but no number or anything. One more thing btw, my dad received this email about ace some 2 years ago!
