I have a problem with my new Sony Ericsson K500i. Software does not work with Windows 98. Is it possible to get a patch or something like that? Is it possible to connect my K500i to my computer with Win98? HELP!!!

Welcome! I have Windows 98 Second Edition. I visited Sony Ericsson website and they inform that K500i is NOT compatible with Win98. However I still belive that the software will run. If anybody has some information please give it to me. Thanks a lot!

Doesn't look good I'm afraid

Do you get an error message when installing the drivers or, after installation, does the phone fail to connect at all? Or throw up an error whilst trying to connect?

The interesting thing is that according to SE, the drivers are compatible with Windows ME but not 98. Since ME is basically just a tarted-up version of 98, it's surprising that the drivers aren't compatible. Sure, ME added some extra functionality at the system level too but it's surprising non the less.

I'm not aware of any patches or rogue drivers but you could always try http://www.driverguide.com for a 98 compatible driver. You have to sign up first, which is a bit of a pain, but it's a pretty useful site

To have the SonyEricsson PC suite work with Win98 the latest Win98 COM driver needs to be installed. It is called Dcom98.
See here for download.
