this problem is regarding any file on the actual phone storage (not the mmc cards)

the problem lies in file attributes, a few users can't delete "read only files" for example if you copy a read only file to your phone via direct transfer infrared, bluetooth or cable or copy a read only file from your mmc, it is stuck on your phone for ever,

ive tried to delete the unwanted files (my ex ex gf's pics) and they wont delete via the phone delete option, you can't delete any directory above where the file is located either, if you try the error "4294967295 items not deleted" pops up on the phone

ive tried using file managers nokia, mobile action, mobimb, nothing works or is allowing me to alter the attributes

the mmc cards can easily be formatted or read only disabled for files in windows if you have a card reader

resetting factory settings does not erase any of your files, i'm not sure if upgrading firmware fixes it, some people have stated it does not, as the firmware only affects the software of the hardware not the actual storage locations,

does anyone know any way to wipe the phones storage location where images, tones, etc. are stored ??

this problem is pissing me and alot of other people off ever since it has been discovered and i can't seem to find alot of information on it,

why am i happy to hear this

but there must be a way to delete them.... does that mean all series40 have the same problem... no i dont think so, it just must a fault or something...

in the worse case, get your phones internal memory flashed by an EEPROM or something and then reload firmware or something...

surely nokia care can help

so far i havent found a way to delete them, many 6230's have this problem and i haven't found one that doesn't, could someone test this at their own risk (perhaps a favorite wallpaper or a file you will most likely always keep on your phone) if you transfer it with read only attributes to your phone,

and how would i go about flashing my phones internal memory with an EEPROM what is an EEPROM, wouldn't that wipe everything and I have no experience of upgrading or updating firmware let alone find official firmware versions, I only have an infrared and bluetooth connections, and i think firmware you need cables or something,

any help on this would be appreciated,

p.s. i have noticed a "war" between SE and Nokia going on these forums, to be honest I don't care as long as my phones small, has bluetooth, at least 800x600 high quality photos, with some sort of video recording, an fm radio, mp3 playing capabilities, bluetooth AND infrared, then i am more than happy not to mention the battery power, and my 6230 seems to have all the above and lasts a good 3 days before a charge is required

I have found this thread, I've also located my nearest service centre, perhaps a firmware upgrade might still work and I still have warranty I think

http://nokiafree.org/forums/t72193/h/s.html

lol ok maybe not so high quality but acceptable, I'm not exactly a photographer

I'm visiting the service centre tomorow, i can't beleve i won't have my phone for a few days !!! Guess il have to use my T610 to compensate until my phones upgraded,

also here are your nearest nokia service centres

http://www.nkmobile.i12.com/servcentre.html

also the official nokia site list is here

http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,27188,00.html

also my phones firmware is 3.17 i can't beleive its that old, funny thing is i can't remember where or who i bought it from, how long is the standard warranty,

You just switch the phone off and then turn it on and then try to delete those files. Even in my dad's old 6230 this kind of a problem was there and I just switched it off and switched it on and I was able to delete the files. Try and tellme

Nokia phones must be packrats and try to accumulate files until you run out of storage.
