A friend brought a S710 from cingular a month ago (SIMlocked and branded) in florida US and i was able to use it normally there but when i came back to Venezuela were he couldnt change the sim and the phone wasnt even able to get a signal (in roaming). Now, i know u can remove the sim lock using a code in the "service menu" but will cingular give me that code if i call them?
Ah, and if the answer is yes, can i set new internet profiles to be able to use GPRS with my current network?
Thx

Actually was my friend who brought it, (the first post is corrected now) he brought it by contract even when i told him that is was very possible that the phone was going to be locked.
Our carrier told us that the phone could be reflashed but when we take it there they told us that they only had S700 firmware, not S710.
Hes using it now as a MP3 player and carrying a T610 as phone.

im not sure... but why cant you just flash it with the s700 software?? as far as i know the s710 is a more US version of the S700.... I think you should flash it with the S700 software/firmware etc... but dont take my word for it yet... let someone else on here post their opinion too, and if they say the smae thing, then it is most likly the best choice... i hope this helps!!
ANYONE reply too please |

I dont think it would work because S700 has radio wich S710 doesnt, and S710 has EDGE wich S700 doesnt!

That's true.... both firmwares are different. And I don't think cingular is going to provide the unlock code while you are still in conract. But, what's wrong in trying |

i infact KNOW they wont... so you might be best off selling it... and buying an unlocked one honestly
how much did you buy it for? |

Cingular will only unlock a phone if you cancel the contract/service agreement and tell them you are moving to a different carrier. that's the only way they will do it.

That's true.... Cingular sucks in this respect..... anyway, as suggested, you are better off selling it and getting S700i.... do you have 850 band in your area? |

Go visit a Cingular Asian market agent.. They will unlock it for a nomial fee. It's worth it if you have the phone already. |

I dont know if this will help you. here in the uk most of our mobile phone shops will do it for a small fee, about £10 = $18.
Our networks will unlock the phone for a fee too norm £20 = $36 but you hav to be at the end of your contract tho.
You can get it unlocked on the internet using a cable and purchaing a credit. from the company you use. Try going on google and searching for unlocking your phone.
Other wise than that im not sure. Cingualr are with in there right to lock the phone and ask you to pay for the remainder of the contract before they give you the unlock code.
Hope this helps. |
