Hi All,
I need some clarification please. I know there a few threads stating that you can`t assign mp3`s as ringtones on Vodafone Network unless you goto the trouble of recoding it using the DRM packer thingy.

A friend of mine is up for upgrading his phone and wants the S700i, has been round to a few stores and gets 2 different answers. Some are saying that it`s still not possible to assign mp3 as ringtones, and some stores are saying Vodafone have sorted this problem out and it is possible to assign mp3 as ringtones.

Now he`s not very PC literate so he would rather change Networks then try to figure out how to recode his mp3`s.

I said hold fire for a few days i`d ask the People in the Know..

So PEOPLE, do any of you know a definate answer as to the infamous mp3 syndrome.

Thanks In Advance....

To my knowledge (It's based on how I've read the topics on the subject) Voda has put a block on MP3 ringtones that are not purchased from the Vodaphone site.

Anyone is free to proove me wrong since I'm no expert on Voda at all.

i have a vodafone branded v800. you do not need to rencode your mp3s, its just a simple little app that adds the DRM to an mp3 file and saves it as a *.dm

just copy it to your phone and set it as a ringtone!

the program
http://www.willybumpooface.co.uk/drmp.exe

an example
http://www.willybumpooface.co.uk/electric.dm

im only going to host this here till sunday night, after that you will have to find it on the sony ericsson dev site

if you go on the sony ericsson iste register as a developer & you can get the software to enable you to have mp3 ringtones got this info of a vodaphone engineer, drmpackager1.2.1.zip is the software I think. I haven't had to do this myself an I'm on Orange & I've got aP910i

i found this program but the quality is reduced alot meaning you cant hear the phone ring if its more than 1/2 metres away. if anyone knows one that converts it directly from mp3 to that format with no loss id be interested

Voda has put a lock on content lacking Digital Rights. DRM protected content can be obtained from elsewhere than the vodafone portal though

1.Your software needs to be R2E033
2.You need to encode your mp3s with sony ericsson's drm packager. Theres a post on this forum that goes into great detail on this, do a search;)
As voda have made SE take it off their site here's a link for it
http://rapidshare.de/files/1020142/drmpackager1.2.1.zip.html

As for the volume issue, you can "normalize" mp3s on your pc with numerous different softwares, many free.
