Bluetooth: pair with only one computer? |

I have k700i, WinXP SP 2 and Belkin USB Bluetooth adapter with XP drivers. I have paired my phone and home computer sucessfully, syncing with Outlook. Then I took my USB adapter to my office PC. My admin was nice enough to install the usb adapter (xp drivers) and the SE software. It worked in no time. I have my Outlook data on an USBstick so it syncs with the same data.
BUT
When pairing the office computer, the phone first showed up my home computer as wanting to pair, which was not true of course. I then new what was inevitably to come. It put my office computer in its place. So when back home, I have to do all the work again: open BT panel, search for new device, pair, assign comports, go. Back at the office: search new device, pair, assign comports, go.
I tried to make the connection from the phone to 'force' the 'new device' logic, but that doesn't work.
Any solution?
Would another USB BT adapter appear as a really different? Which part in the chain defines the identity: the BT adapter, the pc itself? Is every Belkin adapter the same? Does every device have some sort of unique id? Does the phone accept only one paired pc?
Any help or link to sites would be greatly appreciated.
(Edit: spelling etc.)

Addressed by the Bluetooth itself, not the PC. Another adaptor makes difference.

Indeed.
I tried with another adaptor (exactly the same model, but another) and now it works as expected.
Unfortunately FMA does not want to play anymore. |

FMA back, had to delete everything, including registry settings.
Now FMA connects via Native BT instead of via Serial Ports. That didn't work before. Don't understand but don't care as long as it works. |

My belkin adapter is a steaming pile of crap. I regularly have to re-pair (repair!), or stuff around getting file transfers going. By contrast, my DLink adapter works perfectly, and once configured just works.

It is hard to discern why an adapter works or not. On my home computer the SE software takes twice as long to conect as on my office computer. On my home computer the connection regularly drops, files have to be re-transfered. On my office PC the connection never drops and no matter how many files I transfer at once it just works.
Same phone, same software, same adapter. Office pc is newer (P4, Duron at home).
As far as I can see BT is very heavy on your computer: it takes a fair amount of your processor and puts a strain on the communication lines inside.
There are just too many parameters involved to say that this or that part of it (like the adapter) is 'crap'. |

hehe, actually I have good reason to say belking adapters are crap. I've used a wide variety of adapters, and belkin are by far the most fiddly and buggy. I also use my adapters on many different computers across many locations and with many different phones.
So I think I am more qualified to judge than someone who only uses one adapter between only two different locations
Across all those locations and equipment, you have much more information for identifying exactly where the problem lies |

I use a Billionton BT adapter and win2k and I also experience the same occassional re-pairing. Sometimes the Serial port has to be re-activated to work.
resistance is futile. |
