I finally decided to go mobile and buy a notebook. I live in Switzerland and will go for an internship in the US for five months. If I buy a notebook there will it be cheaper? Will I be able to bring it here without problems (such as electric plug etc.)?

I am searching for a very special notebook... Since I will not miss P800 I want it with:
- bluetooth
- memory stick

And at least one fireWire port.

I found the Samsung p-10 online with those features available on request, also a Sony C1something (Sony has a too small screen...).
The problem is that on the site there are no prices and you cannot order it or redirect to an online dealer...

Are you aware of any notebook with those features?
Of course I could buy one and add bluetooth card and memory stick, but I prefer having them built-in.

I also would like it to have a CD-RW (don't care about DVD), and the Samsung has it also.

Well, if you can answer one of my many questions THANK YOU VERY MUCH in advance. If you can't I hope you found this post intersting...

Ciao ciao

Goodness, I'd just buy a POWER Laptop/Notebook with a Geforce card in it You can always buy those added accessories any time.

Try and check out Toshiba Satellite 5100. It's got "all" features, DVD, CD-RW, bluetooth, memory slot, pentium 4... etc... etc
I'm kind of interested in getting one.

Thank you guys...

The toshiba has everything I am searching for. The only problem is it's price (USD 6000).
You might say that if I want performance and features I have to pay them. Well I just yould like to find a little cheaper one... (max USD 3000)

Because otherwise I prefer to buy a "simpler" model and buy those features I am looking for separately.
Nevertheless this Toshiba is really tempting... But I have to buy a P800.

My budget is around CHF 7000 (USD 4700) to make this whole "getting mobile" operation...

Help my finding a solution, since you seem to be the only ones able to

Here in Sweden the Toshiba is about 3800-4000$. But surely there must be an online shop to get it even cheaper.
Have you looked at Toshiba online?
There's also a "light" version of it, the main diff is the harddrive 40GB instead of 60GB. But all the high tech features are the same.
That one goes for about 3200-3400$ here.

Still plenty of $$$ to buy a P800

In the past 6 months, I've traveled to Japan, Singapore, USA and Switzerland with buying a good notebook in mind. I ended up buying it from Japan (bought an amazing Fujitsu Lifebook C Series) because the technology and customer service there were like no where else I had ever seen and many of the features weren't out in other notebooks at the time (5 months ago) because that's the way Japan is. I did, however, compare the Far East, with the US with Europe. Singapore and the USA have the cheapest notebook prices. I would not recommend that you buy it from Switzerland - electronics are more expensive in Europe. Wait till you go to the US and buy one from there - you'll find a bigger variety and will most certainly get a better deal on whatever brand you choose to buy.

About the Memory Stick, Sony notebooks are probably your best bet because they have a built in slot that is truly integrated perfectly with the computer and functions as smoothly as any other drive. About Bluetooth, you're probably best off buying a third party Bluetooth PC card and installing it in your notebook. That way you can choose a good brand and compare features rather than be restricted to the Bluetooth device of your notebook manufacturer which may not be that great. I have a 3Com Bluetooth PC card and it works like a dream. 3Com are masters of communication but notebook manufacturers (like Toshiba, Sony or Compaq) are good at making notebooks and have been doing it forever - Bluetooth is new to them.

Hope this helps.

Thanx. In fact I just got to a shop here, and have to agree on prices. The Toshiba satellite 5100 doesn't have bluetooth and also no memory stick. Therefore I will wait until I am in the US to purchase.

What do you think about an assembled one? I could choose what I want and have it done. I heard one manufacturer of motherboards has some models with bluetooth on them, but don't know if they are available for notebooks...

And memory stick is not a real priority since p800 gets connected with USB...
A real mobile hub is what I am looking for. A PC that gets old slowly... And gets connected no matter which standard...

I guess I will have to wait the US for purchase.
Does anyone from L.A. know where to check?

I wanted to thank you all for helping me in spending my money well and in a useful way. i am so grateful I found Esato, even if sometimes I wish I didn't know (t68 and t68i was one of them )

The best laptop companion for the T68i and T39 will be the Apple Macintosh Powerbook or iBook running Jaguar OS X 10.2.

Ericsson and Apple have teamed up together to really promote Bluetoogh synchronize capabilities. Jaguar is due out this September.. if you can wait.

I live in LA and the best places to buy electronics are online. I use buy.com or amazon.com. They might not be the cheapest but they are reputable. You should watchout for the strengthening dollar tho might have pay a couple hundred extra euros (they don't use euros in Switzerland do they? anywho....) As I type this I am off to best buy to buy some electronics with a friend of mine.

@allanf: Yeah, good point! If you are a Mac user, you should definitely buy a Mac Powerbook with OS X 10.2, also called Jaguar! The sync-capabilities with T68m(i) are built-in in this OS which is very impressive!
